40-wa Shan' Zfeamt We, The Seniors oT Boys l-ligh, are now in The hornesTreTch oT a race which began as a long and endless one buT now seems so very shorT in reTrospecT. We have had The added good TorTune oT seeing our TooTball Team go Through an undeTeaTed season, and me have waTched one OT The greaTesT Track Teams ever assembled, go Tlying by on The cinder paThs. Our Tellow sTudenTs have won unTold scholasTic and aThleTic honors againsT all comers. In years To come, when we shall be Tacing The Turbulence OT adulT liTe, we shall look back on our brieT Tenure aT Boys High and remember The liTTle incidenTs ThaT are so dear To our hearTs. We shall recollecT how hard we Tried To sTop The hordes Trying To geT pasT our door guard posT, and our sTruggles To climb The ropes in The gym. l.eT's go back now and recall in deTail These pasT Tour years ThaT have been so enjoyable and delighTTul To us, during our sTay in Alma MaTer. FROSH Timidly, we saT clad in our knickerbockers lisTening To our principal, Mr. Tausk, explain To us whaT Boys l-ligh sTands Tor and means. We were so overwhelmed by The ouTsTanding repuTaTion oT our school ThaT we resolved To conTribuTe To and keep alive her illusTrious presTige. AlThough we resenTed The BM. ses- sion, Boys T-ligh soon became an acTive parT oT each one oT us. IT was someThing new Tor us To come To school in The glorious sunlighT and go home in The ungenial, six o'clock darkness. ATTer looking Tor The new hydromaTic elevaTor, we became aware ThaT we'd have To be on guard againsT The pracTical ioking oT The seniors. Six During The TirsT Tew weeks in SepTember, we Tound ourselves embroiled in The now Tamous more-pay-Tor-coaches dispuTe. WiTh The baTTle cry STrikel No School 'Til SporTs Come Back! we marched To Brooklyn Tech. ATTer a day oT This, we Tinally came To our senses and re- Turned To school. As The TooTball season arrived, a TradiTional clamor oT exciTemenT sounded wiThin The walls oT Alma lvlaTer. ln an annual, Thrill-packed ElecTion Day conTesT, we nosed ouT Brooklyn Tech, 26-25. lggie RappaporT, picked on every All-STar Team, was designaTed BesT FooTball Player in The ciTy. Doc ElsTein's mile relay Team, composed oT Payne, Ellis, Fields, and l-lasse, seT a new record by running The mile in 3:26.6 aT Ran- dalls Island. Meanwhile, Siggie Banks' number Tlashed all over The baskeTball courT as The varsiTy Tive sTreaked To Tame. The Red and Black also came Through by publishing a six page Tabloid ediTion, which received a MedalisT Award Trom The Columbia ScholasTic Press AssociaTion. The l.iTerary Recorder, a'so up on Top, aTTained a TirsT place raTing Trom The same associaTion. As usual Mr. Panem's naTurals llvlaThleTesl copped TirsT place in The inTerscholasTic lVlaTh League. By The Time our Treshman year Tlew by, we Tell' ThaT we were now compleTely iniTiaTed men oT Boys T-ligh. No longer did we buy elevaTor passes . . . we now sold Them. SCDPHS The welcome sound oT Toe againsT pigskin, The perennial Torerunner of Tall and TooTball, ushered in our sophomore year wiTh liTTle shorT QT bre3Th-Taking rapidiTy. C
