YeT Those pasT years have probably been The TullesT OT our lives so Tar. Aside Trom our own, Tull, normal developmenT in These years, we also have been wiTness To one OT The mosT imporTanT periods in The hisTory oT The world. The years To come will be oT no less impor- Tance. WheTher our careers Take us inTo business, or TurTher educaTion, or perhaps The miliTary Torces, we cannoT help Teel ThaT biT oT inse- curiTy ThaT comes wiTh leaving The shelTer oT high school To prepare To sTand by ourselves. We look back and cerTain experiences come up in our minds which have Tound meaning To us personally: The TirsT TooTball game: The TirsT conTacT wiTh ThaT unknown, vague, TearTul TesT, called RegenTs: pracTice ouT on The Tield: read- ing The long yellow proofs. Now leT's go back To our enTrance inTo Boys High and go over carefully all Those evenTs and Thrills ThaT make a high school career ThaT parT oT us, which will always be diTTerenT. LeT's see how we've grown. FROSH WiTh The coming oT The Fall oT I944, we all eagerly awaiTed The day on which we were To enTer Boys High School. Finally, The mo- menT arrived. We were now oTTicially B.H.S. freshmen- gullible Treshiesf' IT did noT Take us very long To Tind ouT ThaT The elevaTor pass- es ThaT we had purchased were unnecessary, so we rolled up our sleeves and dug in. AT TirsT The aTmosphere was noT very con- ducive To sTudying, Tor renovaTors were.-put Six Ting The Tinishing Touches To The 550,000 over- haul iob begun prior To The summer vacaTion. WiTh The compleTion oT The alTeraTions Though, we wenT To work in earnesT. Our TirsT semesTer was concluded wiTh a gianT wasTe paper salvage campaign, which neTTed almosT 3,000 pounds oT scrap Tor The war eTTorT. ln an eTTorT To improve inTer-American re- laTions, The Pan-American Club presenTed a perTormance oT Spanish-American and Swing Music. The Melody Men and The Swing Band also parTicipaTed. The MaTh Team was again vicTorious, cap- Turing The lnTerscholasTic MaTh League Cham- pionship Tor The TiTTh consecuTive season. WiTh The awaiTed vicTory in Europe a realiTy, we doubled our War Bond quoTa To 580.000, in an eTforT To bring ulTimaTe vicTory and per- haps a IasTing peace closer and closer. SOPHS ATTer a summer vacaTion which helped To sTrengThen our educaTional TorTiTude, we aT lasT enTered our sophomore year aT Alma MaTer. We weren'T buying elevaTor passes any more and inviTaTions To The swimming pool were reiecTed wiTh sarcasTic replies. The building seemed less formidable and medieval and we Took iT Tor granTed ThaT The blueprinTs Tor B.H.S. musT have been drawn up righT aTTer The Civil War. ThaT year our possession oT The aTomic bomb had been revealed, and The Japanese were ready To capiTulaTe. Aboard The U.S.S. Mis- souri in Tokyo Bay, The empire oT Japan signed Terms oT uncondiTional surrender. RevolT was brewing in Boys High as rumors oT coaches 4auiTTing were heard, Thg'e.Tore,. The TirsT Tew weeks in SepTember we wenT ouT on sTrike. ATTer making a compleTe nuisance oT ourselves, we reTurned To school and seT- Tled down To make up a day's homework. School liTe moved merrily on iTs way and a TradiTional clamor oT exciTemenT sounded wiTh- in The walls. oT Alma MaTer as The TooTball season arrived. Our old rivals Trom Tech were sure oT an easy vicTory, buT The Boys High eleven maTched Touchdown Tor Touchdown and we nosed ouT a 26-25 win. Doc ElsTein's speed demons won The mile relay crown, while Siggie Banks' number Tlashed all over The baskeTball courT as The varsiTy Tivo sTreaked To Tame. JusT as The Mississippi Tloods The midwesT, so Boys High was Tlooded by some mysTerious meThod, and rubber raTTs were seen TloaTing around The corridors. The Red and Black surprised The school wiTh a Tabloid ediTion which proved so successTul iournalisTically ThaT iT received a MedalisT Award Trom The Columbia ScholasTic Press AssociaTion. However, The brainboys on The I-iTerary Recorder weren'T lagging behind and They garnered a TirsT place raTing Trom The same AssociaTion. Our grand old brass secTion, under The deadly baTon oT Mr. WeinsTein, celebraTed iTs Twen- TieTh anniversary, while The Melody Men were making merry over WNYC. lT cerTainly was hard To Tind a l'Deadhead ThaT year in Boys High. Why, wiTh all The roller skaTing parTies, school dances and oTher social TuncTions, having ,an enioyable social liTe was noT aT all diTTiculT. Bob Feinberg's elecTion as A.A. presidenT marked The end oT our Sophomore year. So long, Alma MaTer . . . be seeing you in The JUNIORS Back we came Trom The long awaiTed sum- Tall! mer vacaTion To commence The second halT oT our Thus Tar exciTing and evenTTul high school career. ThaT glorious TooTball season we had always hoped Tor Tinally arrived, bringing To The spoT- lighT Those immorTals, Faske, HaTT, Ricca, Fazio, Hopewell, and all The resT who easily vanquished Team aTTer Team up To The Tech clash. The TradiTional rivalry wiTh Tech became more acuTe since boTh schools were undeTeaTed, and This was The deciding game. The exciTed TiTTeen Thousand specTaTors could noT be re- sTrained. They Tlowed onTo The gridiron unTil The game was called by The oTTicials Two and one-halT minuTes early, wiTh boTh Teams Tied. ln spiTe oT The many rumors oT a play-oTT, we had To be saTisTied wiTh The TiTle oT co- champions of The ciTy. Aside Trom perTorming aT various schools and insTiTuTions ThroughouT The ciTy, our band was awarded The highly coveTed honor oT being asked To play Tor many high digniTaries aT RockeTeller Plaza UniTed NaTions YouTh Day. Then elecTions oT oTTicers To The Allied Ac- TiviTies ExecuTive Council began. When The resulTs were TabulaTed, iT was learned ThaT Herbie HorowiTz and Andy lppoliTo easily had overcome The opposiTion Tor The oTTicesi of presidenT and vice-presidenT, respecTively.
