27' Mardi , 1 livi- x ? Ziff HIQ INCRIQASED enrollinent at Central, the extensive program of activities, the well-equipped teams and excellent coaching facilities are directly traceable to the efforts of The Central Round Table. No organization of its kind could be more faithful to the pur- pose of its founding or more active in its support of the School and its varied activities than this fine body. The faculty and the student body feel deeply indebted to the Round Table and are happy to have this opportunity of expressing their appreciation and gratitude. Montana's United States history dates from April 30, l803, when Louisiana was purchased from France. Lou- isiana ot that day included the vast area stretching west from the Mississippi river to the Continental Divide. Four-sixths ot what is now Montana was twice owned by France: once owned by Spain, was at various times part of six territories as tollows: Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Dakota, ldaho and Montana ln ISO6, two-sixths ot Montana was claimed by three nations - England, Spain and Russia, The United States title to the area now embracing Oregon, Washington, ldaho and a part ot Montana, was not established until IS46. Two-sixths ot Montana therefore was at one time part ot Oregon country. ln succession, it became part ot the following territories: Washington, ldaho and Montana. The territory ot Montana was organized in I865 and statehood was acquired in i889 Montana is the third largest state in the union. Right- tully called the Treasure State, Montana is exceptionally rich in natural resources. ANACONDA COPPER MINING CO. Work for a Greater and More Prosperous Montana . ABOUT f YOUR FUTURE Because.. your future is up to YOU! N6 X X Q R K f X Your future is closely wrapped up with the future of your country, and it's not too early for you to decide what you want your country to be, You want a nation, a system, a way of life that will give you the best opportunity in your own jobs. Some socialistic planners today want you to scrap your way of life for a new philosophy, a new plan in which the State would take over the functions of free enterprise. The State would take over your in- dustries, build your homes, run your lives. But - remember this - the American system of free enterprise has built for you the strongest nation and the highest standard of liv- ing the world has known. It has built these things on freedom of choice, freedom to work, invest and own property. Socialism operates on force, higher taxes and slavery. It has failed everywhere it has been tried. Free enterprise operates on in- centive, initiative and freedom, What better proof of its success than the nation in which you live todayl Q Ol'llCII'lCl OWQP OHWPCIYNJ 6,1-Nw J LJ ,L A 4 ff P' I I ce QOQ- fl ffrd 'W r A Yxff l' I 5 . The lion's share of praise goes to our unassuming and efficient conductor, Klr. Martin Cesare. His tireless efforts, unlimited patience, and skill as a teacher, bore rich fruit. The football and basketball seasons were enlivened by the snappy, spirited rendition of school songs, marches, and stunt numbers, climaxed by the enthusiastic musical outburst on the closing night of the State Basketball Championship game at Anaconda. At the rallies, assemblies and the Basket- ball Victory Celebration the band was the focal point of enjoyable programs. At all the games and other occasions mentioned above, Brother X. Dunphy acted as conductor in his customary efficient manner. He is responsible for the excellent conduct, neat appearance and fine discipline of the organiza- tion as well as for the live interest and attention exhibited at all times. 7 The concert band answered many requests of the people of Butte. It entertained the Elks' Club, the Daughters of Isabella, the Anaconda Mining Club, gave the usual Saint Patrick's Day Concert in the school auditorium and played the American and Irish National Anthems in St. Patrick's Church after the High Mass. A fine musical program was presented on the evening of the Shower for the Brothers and a successful year was brought to a close with the annual Mother's Day concert. .1 LM . Year in and year out, the tumblers BROTHER MCMAHON are the pride and joy not only of Central but of the entire city of Butte. This past year the tumblers gave thirty-five exhibitions - a record in itself. The team performed at most of the horne basketball games and also for organizations in Butte, Aanconda, Bozeman, Boulder, and Helena. The team was always enthusiastically received wherever it went. As one writer of the local newspaper wrote: Each act of the Central tumbling team was greeted with hearty applause and each was carried through with precision and timing comparable to those of professional artists' A great deal of the tumblers' success was due to the leadership of the Seniors on the squad: jim Hardy, George Rogers, jack Canavan, and joe Kennedy. The underclassmen also upheld the traditions of the Central tumbling teams and to them we extend our sincerest thanks. We would also like to express our thanks to the Accordion Band which was such a great help to the tumblers at all their exhibitions. The tumbling team and its coach, Brother McMahon, cannot be given too much praise for their untiring efforts and clever performances. TUMBLING TEAM Buds row: CI. l.rm'm'y. I.. I,lllll'llllClCflll. FELLOWS THE M CL HB GNQ WJ IX A rib-tickling comedy, talented R' thespians, and a willing produc- tion staffg add plenty of hard work and fung blend well with unlimited enthusiasm and co-operation and you have the Boys' Central Dramatic Club which under the expert direction of Brother C. Fellows, enlarges its scope and adds new laurels to its already traditional reputation for out- standing performances. After long weeks of intensive rehearsals the club presented its first per- formance of the year, No Soapn, staged at the Fox Theater, November 17. The plot centered around a serious young man who won 35 ,000 for Writing a radio script in a contest. As the contest was open to women only, many mirthful, complicated situations ensued. Hardly had the applause for this hit died away when, on March 9, the club was ready for its second production of the season, Adam's Evening , a hilarious farce about Adam , a friendly chap, who gets caught trying to slip into his house 5 after being out until 4 A. M. The explanation he gives of t his whereabouts leads to a riot of fun and swift moving action. l The Club also supplied actors for the male roles in Girls' Central play, Jenny Kissed Me . and before the termination of the year a one act play will also have been presented. Credit goes to the team first of all, which gave a convincing demonstration of what a Ten Man Teamw can do. Coach Ed Roy. selected as the best coach in the Tournament, did a masterpiece of de- fensive strategy, notably in upsetting Anaconda, and supplied in addi- tion plenty of fireworks in the speedy and heady attack of his victorious Nlaroons. The Tournament was the climax of a very successful season Csee summary of scoresj. No aggregation showed more team work and the reserves vied with the regulars and did not weaken the team in the least when they took over. Congratulations, many and sincere, to a grand team - champions in every sense of the word and gentlemen on and off the court. Their Sportsmanship drew high praise from the officials, coaches, and fans all over the State. The success of the team, of course, is due principally to its fine coach, Ed Roy. May he be with us for many years to come, Our thanks to Brother McKenna, our Moderator, to Mr. George Perry for physical care, timely advice and ready assistance, and to our industrious hard-working managers, Dan Combo and jack Keeley. Gut loyal fans merit appreciation for their unwavering support and en- couragement. To our Band, Girls, Central Twirlers, Pep Club and Cheer Leaders, and to our own Tumblers we say Thanks for the enjoyable entertainment furnished during the season.
