The class finds itself ready lor the long-awaited eyent-graduation from high school. It is highly appropriate. we believe, that our record be preserved lor posterity. In September of 1941. exuberant and hopeful. we entered Central. XVhile looked upon by upperclassmen as a tremendous liability to the mental balance and integrity ol' the institution we soon commanded the respect ol the skeptics as many members ol our class won places on the Freshmen Honor Roll. an achieyement sustained throughout their entire high school course by Raymond D, Burns. Thomas A. Clinch. Patrick M. Harstead. Robert Labrie. Robert Lind. Henry X. Plott. lX'illiam B. Scully. and Qlames D. Smyth. a splendid tribute to their scholastic ability. industry. and perseyering effort. lt is not without pride that we point to the marked improyement made in our school band during our years at Central lor which members of our class, Clinch. Lind. Dully, Riley. and Scully, deserye a notable share of the credit. In the oratorical and essay- writing lields traditions were creditably maintained by McGregor, McBride, Harstead. and Clinch. On the gridiron Carroll. Dougherty. Lee, Riley, and Rooney upheld the honor ol' the class and by their spirit and determination brought credit to their school when. under trying circumstances. the burden ot' maintaining Central's Iootball traditions was placed on their shoulders during their senior year. Hut in the lield ol athletics it was on the basketball lloor that our class brought Central its greatest glory as Kelly. Hurchell. Dennehy and Dennehy. XVhite. and Hughes brought Central its lirst Montana Big lti Conlerence Championship and took lirst-place honors in the lirst 'l'ri'State 'lournanient eyer conducted in the city ol liutte. ln intramural competition Combo and Harslead were champions in handball and pingpong respectiyely. Imbued with deep loye ol Central High School and with gratitude to the Brothers we regretlully but tonlidently entrust Central's heritage to the class ol nineteen lorty-six. - Page zo THE MAROON :mf- YEAR OF 1945 f ?' AH FOOTBALL HE 194-l football season saw the inauguration of a new training program at Boys' Central. Handicapped by a dearth of experienced players. Brother P. -I. Sullivan and Brother C. Nevlon were forced to select their material largely from the ranks of Sophomores and Freshmen. The courage and determination of the coaches and the enthusiasm of the players were pttt to a severe test in the season's opener which found them pitted against the Bulldogs ol Butte Public High School. Despite this slaughter. spirit remained high and hard work was continued as the light and vouthful squad got readv to face one of the strongest teams of the Northwest, the Bullpups ol Gonzaga. The fact that the strong 4Xnatonda and Havre elevens were still to be faced was lltll heartening for toathes or plavers. But the Maroons staved with the grind and their hard work and good spirit were rewarded bv victories over .Xnacontla Central, Bozeman. and Livingston. lYhile tlte scoreboard in lille! gave little reason for rejoicing. the evident results of the seasons training and the noticeable abilitv' of the vottnger plat ers created enthusiasm among Central fans as thev looked forward with brigltter hopes to the season of ISHS when eighteen of these who took it on the thin will again carrv' the tolors lor Central High School.
