Fiala. 62 Football Led by coaches Warren Fry and Nicholas Noel and Co-captains David Hartman and Richard Nuss, the Bears put forth their best efforts but the final tally of the season's games was one win, one tie and seven de- feats. Boyertown met with Upper Perkiomen on the opponents' field for the first encounter of the season. The Bears made a respec- table showing by scoring one touchdown while holding the Indians scoreless and al- lowing them no first downs in the first half. But the Upper Perk team struck back and tied the score at 6-6 in the fourth quarter. For the second game of the season, the Red and Black traveled to Owen J. Roberts where they gained their only victory of the season by a score of 20-7. As the number of injuries began to mount, the Bears failed to score, dropping the next four games to their opponents. Co-captains Richard Nuss and David Hartman did their best to keep the team striving for the coveted victory over the Pottstown Troians in the last game of the i958 football season. Although the Bears failed to bring home the laurels, they did give a tremendous demonstration of the spirit of Boyertown High. Gerry Gabel, senior halfback, and co- captain Richard Nuss ioined by fullback Bob Schaeffer share the scoring spotlight. Co-captain David Hartman was selected as center on the All-Berks County Team. The seniors were represented by David Hartman, Richard Nuss, Sam Cardy, Ken- neth Conrad, James Freed, Gerald Gabel, Carl Harner, Fred Heintz, Gene Shane, and Ronald Weller. Although they did not come out on top, the team enjoyed playing together and shared in many experiences which will long be remembered. FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Upper Perkiomenville .. 6- 6 Owen J. Our '59 Bear is novel in appearance and content. Under the Editor- in-Chief, Bonnie Lou Wasley, the staff compiled a record of the year's important events and happenings. As a special proiect the Bear staff sponsored the annual Home- coming Dance for the alumni. A festival fall scene was created by the theme Autumn Leaves . Through the ioint effort of the Bear Staff and the students an enjoyable and successful Variety Show was presented. The staff harmoniously combined the facilities of the art, literary, photography, and business staffs to make this yearbook a memorable one for the graduating class of '59. 74 Yearbook J If musf be fusf nghf AS. Many honors have been brought to our school by this group of enthusiastic stu- dents. Under the direction of Mr. Arlen R. Say- lor, the band brought spirit and musical cheers to all pep rallies and football games. During the halftime at football games the band displayed its marching abilities which have been perfected by hours of hard practice. After the football season, the band turned to concert music and combined with the chorus to present the Christmas Con- cert to both the public and the student body. The highlight of the year was the Annual Spring Concert, the Washington Preview, which was performed for the public prior to the band's trip to Wash- ington for the National AAA Competition. lst row-D. After many hours of work the chorus made its first appearance in the Christmas Concert. After the Christmas Concert the chorus concentrated on the preparation of the Annual Spring Concert which is a highlight in the memory of every chorus member. Several students from the Boyertown Area High School Chorus are chosen on- nually to participate in the County Chorus. Announcing the pres- ence of Sir Sagramore and Hank at the castle was Gene Kriebel as Clarence the page who according to Hank didnt look like more than a paragraph. Looking for Clarence Elaine a servant girl as portrayed by Barbara Fronheiser appeared on stage. As it turned out Elaine and Clarence were of assistance to Hank in his moderniz- ing of the castle and in his saving of the kings throne. Sir Launcelot on stage as Terry Mest was the good knight of the story helping Hank in his plans. A damsel in distress from a far off kingdom was Barbara Kulp, who fell in love with Hank, although he was of a different century. Last to appear on stage was the wicked Morgan Le Fay as seen through Janice Youse. Morgan, Arthur's sister, with the aid of Merlin, was planning to over- throw Arthur and grab the kingdom to add to her own. The curtain closed on a play of secret plots, modern- ized machines in castle life, and dazzling costumes as Hank recovered and found himself once again in the twentieth century. - P rfb roubye f h Wim Yself no Make If srwPPY' A dsl On your feef' All rlghf You bw Yea yea good slr Tis of a surety so YY! Barbara Haddad played a piano solo followed by a tap dance special which was presented by Sharon Christman. The Studenten Chor, made up of combined German classes, sang several songs in German. The show progressed with Parisian dancing, small combos, vocal solos, and record pantomimes. Randall Romig's impersonation of Victor Borge kept the audience rocking with laughter. Also in the humorous vein was a reading about a sales girl done by Dolores Astheimer. The show came to an end with the reappearance of the chorus line and the cast then assembled on the stage for the finale.
