MONTGOMERY Sponsor SENIOR CLASS MASCOTS Carolyn Rogers - Mack Reams Class Prophecy On a cold winter night in the year 1964, I was looking through my diary to find what the Seniors of ' 54 are now very successful in. I found that Dorothy Allen was the head nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Chicago. She is married to a brain surgeon. After leaving Chicago, I found Marjorie Allgood singing at the Metropolition Opera House in New York. I also found another classmate, Jackie Hallett. She is now a model at Power ' s. Seems that three of the Seniors of ' 54 are in New York. Betty Cantrell is now editor of the Vogue. She ' s still trying to decide which of her boy friends she is going to marry. In Washington, I found Mabel Bowers is doing fine working with the F. B. I. Her snooping took her a long way ! Ray Stephens is now the world famous mathmatician. At the present he is work- ing with the government on a new secret weapon. Mary Upton, is the wife of a very distinguished businessman, who owns a chain of Ribbon Mills. In Philadelphia, I found Evelyn Wells taking the place of Betty Crocker. There’s no doubt about it, you can ' t go wrong with her very delicious fool proof food recipies! In Pennsylvania, I found Norman Carlton, at a naval base. He and his wife have their own radio program of hillbilly music on Saturdays. Moving south, I found Juanita Carter had just returned from France and is now a very famous hair stylist. She is living in South Carolina. I found Jane Crute in Atlanta. She is head buyer for the famous teen shop at Rich ' s. Shirley Drumwright is now living in New Mexico. She and Thomas decided to make their home there because they liked it so well when they went there on their honeymoon. G. B. Rhodes is still trying to get into Hollywood with his jokes. His legs car- ried him a long way. Duke Reid has returned to his birthplace, Duke — to become a Spanish professor. Getting back to Virginia, I found Dianitia Hutcheson is married to the Senator from Virginia. She really has a time managing his campaigns. Marie Thompson is a housewife in Lawrenceville. She and Otis just couldn ' t leave the state. At Baskerville, I found another happy housewife, Sarah Wyne. She and Clinton are very happy on their farm. I found Gilbert Wells the other side of Boydton. He is now the principle of the new consolidated school. Gilbert just couldn ' t get enough of school! In closing my diary I have found all of the Seniors of ' 54 are very happy and still have a big future ahead of them. Senior Class Poem Now we are Seniors at Boydton High; Yet we haven ' t the heart to cheer, For all of us are mighty sad That graduation time is so near. It seems no more than yesterday That we Seniors began our school life. Eleven short years have since passed by, Preparing us for a rich, full life. Happy were our merry parties and trips, Happy the dances and other things. We tried to shun all toil and trouble, To live the life of queens and kings. Now we must leave our very dear school And take our places in the world; We take along our cherished thoughts Which on our hearts shall lie unfurled, We take along a treasured gift No force on earth from us can lift. Juanita Carter James Montgomery i | Student Council was organized at the end of the school year of 1953. It became active the following semester. There are two student rep- resentatives from each class; the sixth through the tenth grades and three representatives from the senior class. Once a week a meeting is held with Mr. Frank Osborne as sponsor. The officers are: President: Betty Cantrell; Vice-President: Eula Grey Kindley; Secretary: Patricia Yancey; and Treasurer: Betty Jane Allgood. The other members are: Lawrence Davis, Mary Ann Morgan, William Morefield, Barbara Jean Lambert, Gary Bevell, Eph Crews, Betty Yancey, Norman Carlton, and Marjorie Allgood. The projects undertaken for this year were discipline, school par- ties each month, and the publication of the Student Council Handbook. We became a member of the National S. C. A. in November of 1953. The co-operation between the school faculty and the Student Cou- ncil was excellent, and all open suggestions through the Student Council were considered towards improvement of our school. We strove to make our Student Council a voice of the student body and we feel that this first year of Boydton High School ' s Student Council has been a very successful one.
