foreword YEARBOOK FOREWORD Four years have passed. . .years filled with evidences of growth and decision. Here in your yearbook the story is told. . .by you .. .the only ones who can truly tell it. Even though you are the authors, this book does not tell everything. Each of you has had varied experiences which have made you grow in a particular way to form more completely that personality which is you. This grow- th was made possible by all kinds of experiences, little and big. . . The time your homeroom teacher helped guide you in- to a final decision as to your vocation. A special friend whose gaity was only offset by the chal- lenge of knowledge. The day when your teacher complimented you highly on an especially difficult paper well written, A class bound closely together through eleven years by working and playing in a spirit of comradeship, A school spirit which developed slowly at first but soon burst into a full expression of loyalty to your class- mates and appreciation for your school, Your graduation. . . a symbol of achievement, and a step into the future.

We pay tribute to his patience, in helping us with our prob- lems, and to his courage in difficult situations, to his sports- manship, kindness, understanding, and humor which will stay with us as we go through life. Service is one thing, a lovable personality another. The two combined are what we, with deep gratitude and love, honor as we dedicate the 1953 Beacon to Mr. Otis Bland Crowder, Jr.
