Class Prophecy I n the year 19 3, I wondered just what had happened to the Seniors I graduated with in 1953, so I decided to tour the country in search for them. Now reading over my diary, here is what I found. Moving south to Raleigh, N. C. , who should I meet but Geneva Rogers serving as head beautician in Carolina College of Beauty Culture. After talking with her a few minutes, I found that this school happens to be for men only; the first and finest of its kind. Next stopping in Tallahassee, Florida, where I found Elinor Perry, owner of one of the world famous orange groves. I ' m sure she is satisfied, for now she doesn ' t have to worry about an Armstrong Heater while on a date. Moving on to Alabama, I found Bea Bailes as the wife of the owner of one of the worlds largest Construction Companies. Evidently Buster liked what he found there in 1952. In that state also, I chanced to meet Etta Mae Morgan as secretary of the Senator. Wonder who that will be? Well, anyway I knew that Etta and Bea could never get too far apart. Stopping in Hollywood, California, awhile, what a thrilling experience to find Jeannette Bevell just finishing another one of her pictures, this one, Toes Over Hollywood. I then turned toward the Hawaiian Islands. After landing the first thing to meet my eyes was a huge crowd of girls. Thinking of Hubert and John, sure enough there they were in the middle. I don ' t think they will be fighting over girls anymore. Landing once again in San Francisco, I decided to go by Camp Stoneman, after being informed that Gordan Perry was there. True enough I found him a general. Perhaps he received this honor by being so good while pulling K. P. Well, I couldn ' t leave out the State of Washington. Upon inquiry at the State Chamber of Commerce, I learn- ed that Mason Hutcheson had no doubt achieved his highest ambition; being a forest ranger in the Olympic Mountains of that state . Stopping again in Detroit, Michigan, I saw a sign over a huge building which read, Durm ' s Cadillac Service. The name sounded familiar and so I decided to investigate. I soon learned that the owner was an old class- mate, Allen Dunn. Spending the night in an elaborate hotel in Ohio, I met J ohnny T homp s on as a bell hop . He just loves to carry the mens baggage upstairs, (depending on the size, of course.) Taking a plane to New York, whom should I find as the pilot? None other than Dee Gregory, who is now the greatest pilot of the air age. After looking around.I also found two other classmates, W. T. Woody and his world famous New York Yankees on their way to New York, once again to meet the world series. The other, a Mrs. Charles Lindsey, whom I recognized as our own Shirley Gregory, on her way to Washington where Charles is a secret service agent in the Pentagon. Deciding to stay there a few days, I learned that Floyd Carter was the owner of a mattress factory in Harrison- burg. I visited him only to find him trying out his new creation The Air Conditioned Mattress. Just as I thought, sleeping on the job again. Of course.no tour is complete without visiting the state of Maine, after walking down Hillcreast Avenue a few blocks I saw a crowd of healthy people waiting for a reducing school to open. In a few minutes I learned that the founder was Rica Gregory, don ' t get me wrong, I didn ' t say fat, just for the healthy. Taking a train to Philadelphia, who should I accidentally meet but Charles Crute, on his way to basketballs great Southern Conference. His legs surely carried him a long way. And can you imagine Beth Kindley as the wife of a Philadelphia Lawyer? I couldn ' t either until I met her at a lawyers ball there. She is doing very nicely for herself. Once again returning to Virginia, I couldn ' t possibly leave out Nancy Bevell who is head dietician in the new hospital in South Hill which has finally been completed. I knew she couldn ' t get too far from home. Now ending my tour I feel very satisfied for I know that each one of the Seniors of 1953 have fulfilled their highest ambitions.

Class History We, the graduating class of 195 3, made what v e thought was the greatest step of our lives when we entered high school in September 1949 with a class of thirty. We were looking forward to our last four years of school, as being the best, with Mr. Waldrep as our principal. Our teachers were; Mrs. Jones, Mr. Short, Miss Claiborne, and Mrs. Weisiger. That year Mrs. Weisiger took us on a tour of Richmond. Mrs. Jones took us on a trip to the radio station in South Boston and to Robbins Mill in Clarksville, At the end of the year Mrs. Jones gave a party for the five students who got on the honor roll that year. The lucky ones were; Beth Kindley, Geneva Rogers, Mason Hutcheson, Hubert Tolies on, and Floyd Carter. In June we were all ready for a long vacation because we had worked, Oh, so hard. We entered our Sophomore year with a class of twenty. We had Mr. Glass- cock and Mrs. Gregory as our new teachers, taking the places of Mr. Short and Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Weisiger took us on a tour of Williamsburg and Jamestown, Virginia. At Christmas we had our very nicest party yet at the American Legion Hall. Knowing that we had to take the Seniors on a trip the next year, we started raising money. We had a sweet sale and rummage sale from which we gathered a very neat sum. How could we wait for September when we would be Juniors. We entered our Junior year in September, 1951, with a class of twenty one, with Mrs. Scott and Mr. Crowder taking the places of Mrs. Gregory and and Mr. Glasscock. That year we had to work hard to raise money for the Junior-Senior trip. We sponsored the third annual Mecklenburg County Beauty Contest in December. Many girls participated in this, but our own Betty Cantrell came out as the winner. That year we were overjoyed by receiving our class rings in February. On April 24, 1952, the Juniors and Seniors left for a four day tour to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Mr. and Mrs. Ward and Mr. Waldrep as our chaperones. Except for the constant downpour of rain, the trip was most enjoyable and educational for all. In May the Seniors, in return gave us a Junior -Senior Prom at the American Legion Hall. Our year was climaxed when the Seniors allowed us to walk in a Candle Light Service and present them with Daisy Chain. In June we ended our Junior year with high hopes for our coming Senior history in the making. At last September, 1952, came and we entered our Senior year with a class of nineteen. We have Mr. Butt replacing Mr. Waldrep as our principal; Mrs. Crews taking the place of Mrs. Scott and one extra teacher Mrs. Sutton, who teaches music and other high school subjects. This is to be our most eventful year, as our high school education will come to an end in June and we certainly have high hopes for the future. We are hoping for a successful Senior play and a Junior-Senior Prom in the spring, and graduation for all. With these passing highlights, we discontinue the history of the class of 53 .
