Boyden’s Butch Brown bursts around end for long gain against North Rowan. At midseason the Jackets were riding on a comparatively good 3-2 record. Then, after a heart-breaking homecoming loss to Greensboro Smith by a score of 13-12, a plague of injuries hit the team. Early in the High Point game, Mike Harrison was put out of action for the rest of the season when he dislocated his shoulder on a bruising tackle. From then on, it was all bad luck for the Jackets. Despite the offensive efforts of Cooke, Hillard, Alexander, Pleasants, Bub Carlton, and Kyle Black, Boyden was un¬ able to play effective football. The Jackets dropped their last five games in a row, ending the season with a 3-7 record. The disappointing last half of the season was due to the many injuries. Seldom was there a time when all the starters were in good phy¬ sical shape. And, yet, all was not lost. Valu¬ able experience was gained by the sophomores and juniors on the team. With a little bit of luck, and fewer injuries, the B.H.S. gridders for next year can give Coach Bumgarner a winning season. Jackets romp North 41-2 Kyle Black dashes through the line for a good gain before being downed by a host of Reynold’s Demons. 30
