Hard running backs, great passing, brilliant receiving, stout defense, great desire and a 41-2 romp over North Rowan: these are some of the memories we will all hold for our 1965 football season. Co-captained by tackle Mike Surratt and all¬ purpose back Mike Hillard, the B.H.S. gridders got off to their best start in years. Bouncing back from a 13-6 loss to Kannapolis in the opening game, the Jackets unleashed their fury on North Rowan to grab a 41-2 non-con¬ ference victory. The performance of the Yellow Jackets in that game proved that they were a team to cope with in the General 4-A Con¬ ference. Mike Harrison, a hard runner, scored four touchdowns in the North game in leading the B.H.S. squad to their overwhelming victory. Boyden Football Coaches: Charles Hellard, Ken Bum¬ garner, Mac Brawley, Charles Little, Frank Saunders, Don Graham, Bobby Pharr. f Managers and Trainers: Giles Goodman, Vic Shive, Jimmy Pope, John Turner, Doug Shelton, Steve Cornelison, Robby Gill. The Jackets captured their second victory in the next game against a strong South Rowan. Led by the running of Harrison and the passing of quarterback Fred Cooke to ends Jim Alex¬ ander, Willard Pleasants, and Mike Hillard, they stormed to a 26-13 victory over the Rebels— sweet revenge for their loss the year before. After suffering a setback at the hands of a strong Lexington eleven, the Boydenites bounced back with a gratifying 19-6 win over conference foe West Forsyth. Again Harrison, Hillard, and Cooke led the offense, with Mike Surra tt, John Millspaugh, Jim Kelly, and Daryl Presson shining on defense.
