The journalism class, taught by Miss Gordner, pub- lishes our outstanding paper twelve times a year. The three purposes of the paper are ill to inform students of school activities, C23 to en- tertain through interesting original features, and l3l to help develop constructive attitudes toward various school problems. Last year the Yellow Jacket received a cov- eted Gallup Award. The paper received 933 out of lOOO quality points in the competition. They also received an award from the Quill and Scroll Critical Service. These are certainly outstanding achievements. The staff has twenty-seven members, eleven seniors and sixteen juniors. During the first semester the members of the class prepare for the Triangle Debates by giving formal and informal speeches in class. They also gain cultural back- ground through discussion of great ar- tistic, literary, and musical works. In the second semester they receive the topics for the Triangle Debates. The entire class is divided into affirmative and negative teams of two each, the students gather information an their topic and practice debating in class. The final step is picking the teams that are to debate with two other high schools in the Triangle Debates.
