WARE, JERRY 57 SENIOR SCHOLASTIC Wtr wC JHj i ' mk jB l| - M AWARD WINNERS This was the last of the “best”-our senior year! It doesn’t seem possible that when next September comes we shall not be entering these familiar halls again. As each event took place this year, it became our “last.” The boys played hard in their last football, basketball, and baseball game. We remember our last bonfire and pep rally. This was our last Homecoming, when two of our classmates reigned as Homecoming King and Queen. This was our year; our scholars, our honors, and our superlatives. It was our last Superlative Dance, this time honoring our own classmates. This was our last Christmas and Easter together. This year the Junior-Senior was given in our honor. The last issue of the Yellow Jacket and the last edition of our yearbook, the Echo, were distributed. These are the memories that we shall carry with us. This is our graduation and the end of a year of “lasts.” As the final bell rings, we, the Class of ’61, shall walk down the halls for the last time. We shall no longer be a part of this fine school. This is the end of a wonderful four years, ones we shall never forget. Now, we shall each go our own way and hope that some¬ day, somewhere, WE SHALL MEET AGAIN. 59 .-43 MOST POPULAR Margaret Harry Stanton Cagle BEST ALL AROUND Sara Lou Thomas Wiley Ruth Superlatives MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT Dianne Smith Binky Miller MOST ATHLETIC Susan Tutterrow Gary Kepley MOST INFLUENTIAL Linda Roakes Eddie Ludwick Senior MOST DEPENDABLE Delores Hahn Bill Deadwyler BEST DANCERS Ann Harris Webster Collett Superlatives MOST INTELLECTUAL Casey Norris Harvey Kline WITTIEST Qmio-r Margaret Guy Roger Benson MOST ORIGINAL Becky Stowe Karl Rimer MOST MUSICAL Mary Ann Brady Jimmy Carter MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Sara Robinson Steve Moose ' •V v ■ fi ||f R SNmSpsW i]S ' lW V E- 1 •JIS i Jh iff ! i m St 1 ft 41 JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Laurie Cress, secretary; Billy Beaver, treasurer; Miss Cress, advisor; Tommy Lilly, president; Bill Jarrett, vice-president. 70 Phyllis Albright Robert Angell Dickie Arey Mark Arthur Carolyn Ashe Fred Ayash John Barker Fred Basinger Ronnie Basinger Janet Bearden Bucky Beaver Carl Bickers Mike Bilyeu Marlene Blackwelder Barbara Blalock Barry Bostian Steve Bostian Churchill Bradshaw Linda Bradshaw Ike Brisson Helen Brown Ann Brownlee Richard Brownlee Bobby Bryant Dick Bulla Theda Bundy Clay Burleson Billy Busby j Peggy Campbell Pat Canup Mary Frances Carrigan Mary K. This was the last year before we will become Seniors. Some of our classmates took active leadership roles in the student association. A fortunate few of our classmates were chosen for membership in the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, and twelve of us were elected as Junior Marshals. One of our outstanding citizens was selected as the DAR Good Citi¬ zen at the end of this year. The best Junior-Senior ever was presented this year after many hard weeks of work. To the Juniors, as well as the Seniors, this was a night to be remembered. This year will always hold many memories for us. We have finally made it to the long awaited year . . . Our Senior year. Let each and every one of us strive to make our Senior year the best. 78 IN MEMORIAM Bobby Greene was a boy, but not an average boy, for he pos¬ sessed all the qualities of a well-liked and well-respected person. Ask the boys he has played with and those he has played against on the football and basketball teams. They will tell you what kind of sportsmanship Bobby displayed and the types of leader¬ ship he exhibited during a game. Ask any member of the Hi-Y or the Demolay, the clubs to which he belonged. The will tell you of his willingness to work and his enthusiasm for the things in which he believed. Ask any of his friends. They will tell you what a true friend really is. A person, such as Bobby Greene, could not leave a school with¬ out being deeply missed, and, truly, Bobby will be sorely missed at Boyden. Some of our classmates were members of Junior Civitan and the Key Club. Some ran for student association offices, and some even played varsity football and basketball. Now that the newness of high school was over, we began to really settle down and become a part of the school. We conquered the world in world history class and we be¬ came “expert surgeons” from practice in biology. Some of us have even learned “par- ler le francais.” This year we were no longer the freshmen who had to sit upstairs in assembly. We were promoted to the “downstairs.” Also, several of our classmates saw their first Junior Senior Prom. They were elected by the class to be hatcheckers and waitresses. The first of the “best”. For the first time you were in High School, and you could call yourselves Boy- denites. You attended your first homecoming and loyalty night as a real part of the stu¬ dent body. Some of you were chosen by your classmates to lead them through your first year, while still others took an active part in the student association. Girls, remember taking out more stitches than you put in, in your Home Ec. master¬ piece, and the things you so successfully burnt in the lab? Boys, did your mothers almost leave home when you presented them with your first monstrasity, which to you represented many hours of hard pains-taking work in the fab¬ ulous shop. Yes, this was the first. The first of many wonderful experiences and memories which are to be yours in the coming years. You are on your way now, l ' 4 of the journey is completed, but it’s just the beginning . . . the beginning of the “best”. 101 FRESHMA SNAPSHOTS -•■rr.-., S’p;:f jpi .-:■: ;• •• ' i V- ' ' A’ i ’; ■ ' ' ■• ’ V-Y T WWM t ii iS . !(? . mm $sp 3 , ' -i : ;-y ' .,-( ' • ' . • , $ WT-$m bs x - • 1 (ktiVitteS r DlM HIGH SCHOOL DENT ASSOCIATION STUDENT ASSOCIATION OFFICERS President Wiley Ruth Treasurer Ronald Storey First Vice President Ronnie Hager Second Vice President Bill Hight Advisor Miss Catherine Whitener Secretary Betty Foil Margaret Harry Assembly Cheerleading Elections and Finance Sara Robinson Bobby Moser Inter Club Marian Ruth Jeff Goodman Recreation Paul Walmsley Traffic Pat Everhardt Parliamentarian Paul Heilig Lost and Found Ernestine Craig Public Relations Frances Hartline Point Chairman Eddie Fuller Projects Casey Norris Publicity Arnie Snider Britt Snider House and Grounds Judy Johnson Junior Red Cross 107 Karl Rimer Art Editor 14 Jewels Shock resistant Dianne Smith Editor Frank Roebuck Sports Editor Kay Rufty Assistant Editor THESE MAKE THE Sylvia Cress Literary Editor Betty Foil Managing Editor Gail Liebensberger Business Manager STAFF Mary Ann Lane Assistant Literary Editor ECHO TICK! BOYDEN HIGH MAJORETTES Judy Johnson Junior Clara Jane Neal Senior Janet Graham Senior Sandra Hopper Junior C Margaret Goodman Head Majorette Senior BOYDEN HIGH MAJORETTES Ernestine Craig Junior Kay Pinkston Drum Majorette Junior The Echo Staff dedicates the Sports Section in memory of Coach Bill Ludwig. We shall remember his dignity in manner and speech, his quick smile, his keen sense of humor, his personal interest in all of his students, and his ability to inspire them to do their best. We shall remember his concern for good sportsmanship and fair play, his stand for good citizenship on and off the athletic field, and his readiness to stand for what he be¬ lieved right, whether or not others agreed with him. We shall remember him as a tireless work¬ er, striving for perfection, and as a coach who wanted very much to develop a winning team but never compromised his high ideals for the sake of a winning score. We shall remember him as a fine Christian gentle¬ man. Such is the abiding influence of one who has lived his life well. As this school year draws to a close, we have many wonderful times to look back on. The ECHO STAFF has tried to cover the high spots of the year in pictures. Years from now, when we bring out this book and glance through these pages, all of our experiences will come back to us. So much has been crowded into these nine months-happiness, dis¬ appointments. These feelings cannot be expressed in pictures, but they will be a part of us forever. Now this year is over and the senior class is leaving. Through the years we shall always remember this 1960-61 school year. 1 180 V -tr AUTOGRAPHS °- ' K Ay z - t5 = ? cj2 9 ) j - J °i f— jW$Cw ' MJLOVV O XQM- T f A ' iv a , ' 4 Ja4 { J oJu y Yf(ww i: 181 AUTOGRAPHS t 4T ♦ ' l-v I tOWArJ PUSLiC o.ALiSBURY LiBRA.
