The faculty of Boyden High School consisted of Supt John Brouwer, Miss Lois Riemersma, Prin Arie Grooters, Mrs 'Trudy' Starkweather, and Miss Grayce Meerdink We were brought into full standing of High School students by a much enjoyed initiation party, which we were forced to attend dressed as the opposite sex Another event of the year was a Freshman sponsored party It was a very eventful affair, including mis ltoe, which was roughly taken down by the Superintendent The freshmen girls also invited the boys to a dinner We attended as ginea pigs In 19L7 we all came back to school as Sophomore We were joined by two new members, Leroy fBudl Moret, and Allan Schafer The faculty this year included Supt Norgaard Prin Howard Luback, Mrs 'Trudy Starkweather Miss Lois Riemersma, and Miss Leona Duven The year passed without too many important happenings We did, however, spon sor an initiation party, and on a spring night we traveled to Sheldon by train and enjoyed a class picnic Our Junior year in l9b8, proved to be stack full of happenings The instructors this year included Supt G J VandenBerg, Mrs Velma Rave, Miss Lorraine Schol, Mr Nic Hulst, and Miss Cora Anderson who not come back to school, reducing our class tc 15 It will long be remembered the hard hours of working on the 'Annual' It was fun but we did have occasional fights and then the large battle, Senior Class Junior Class Our class play, a comedy, entitled the 'Boarding House Reach' was also a success We also had the pleasure of work ing with Mrs Starkweather in preparing the Jr Sr Banquet which was based on the theme of Old Mexico' Our Senior year proved to be even bigger and better than the rest Our teachers this year were Supt Vanden Berg, Prin John Fischer, Mrs Velma Rave Miss Lorraine Schol, and Mr Nick Hulst The presentation of our Senior Class play, 'Off the Track' was a great success Class pictures were taken in Storm Lake, what day The day included an education trip through the State Hospital at Cherokee, a 15 minute radio interview a visit through Buena Vista College, and a choice between a college basketball game or a movie in the evening Another important event was the exceedingly great success N O , 0 l , . was later replaced by Mrs. Starkweather. of the basketball team, which won the first game in the district tourn ament It was a feeling of mixed emotion when 15 members of the Class of 1950 marched to their places during Commencement Exercises But looking back we can all say It s been a good 13 years ' Class Motto Live pure, speak true, right wrong Class Flower White Carnation Class Colors Crimson and Silver SENIOR POEM As graduation time draws near, We give a sigh, and shed a tear For we're the ones to graduate And must forever separate Our courses we've now completed, With ambitions undefeated, In preparation for tomorrow, To toil in Joy or sorrow And now we wish to say 'Goodbye' To fellow members of Boyden High Sharp looking, neat and thrifty, We're the class of 1950 JOKES Sally 'I don't like some of these modern dances, they're nothing but hugging set to music ' Allan 'Well, what is there you object to about that?' Sally 'The musici' 'Are you still engaged to Emily?' No 'Good for you' I never did see what you liked about her, she was so dumb and fat' And homely' By the way, how did you ever get out of the engagement?' 'We were married last month ' said he wasn't learning His dad, trying to encourage the boy, admitted that he, too, had difficulty in his early schooling 'Why,' soothed the father, 'I remember that I was so nervous after the second grade I could scarcely hold a razor when I shaved ' Hillbilly 'Say will you flag that train for me, I'm going to the big city Statlonmaster 'Sure will Zeke, but where's your trunk?' Hillbilly Trunko What do I want a trunk fer?' Stationmaster 'Why to put your clothes in Hillbilly 'An' me go nekked?' 'And He was a fireman' --,,,n 1 .
