CLASS HISTORY In September 1937 fifteen frightened youngsters marched up the 1? long steps to a new enchanted world namely 'school days' They included Gerrit John Bosman, Johnny Bothof, Alvin Klein, Kenneth Kreykes Gerhardt Kruse, Willis Kruse Norvan Roggsn, Robert Struyk, Leonard Vander Hoeven, Leola Diekevers, Eleanor Landhuls, Shirley Kooiker, Marilyn Salle and Harriet Doorenbos Miss Esther Olson was the teacher who introduced us to school life One of the outstanding memories of this first y ar is that of bringing May Baskets and singing songs to shut ins In 1938 we came back as 'one year veteransu in the first grade, with Mies Olson as our teacher again The entire class returned ex cept Alvin Klien, who was detained and Harriet Doorenbos who transferred Marvin Bomgaars and Darlene Rozenboom In 1939 the class returned to 'school duty' however we lost Gerrit Bosman, Johnny Bothof, Marv'n Bomgaars and Gerhart Kruse Again we had the pleasu e of having a new member, Ronald Dykstra, Join us One of the main events of this year was a humorous skit presented for our mothers ne esoecially enjoyed having two teachers Miss Olson and Miss Belling During our third grade year under Mies Belling, Ronald Dykstra and Darlene Hozenboom were transferred to different schools We did however welcome two new members, Dwayne Vander Sloot and Joan Jansen, to our class In 19Ul our class included Joan Jensen, Shirley Kooker, Kenneth Kreykes, Eleanox Landhuis Norvan Roggen, Mariyln Salle, Bob Struyk, and Leonard Vander Hoeven Robert Dovark Joined us this year but later he was detained Lois Doorenbos also Joined us One of the highlights of this year was the particination 11 an ooeretta entitled uThe Indian Prlncessn It was a great honor for some of the boys to oe members of John 5m1th's crew In 1932 we commenced on to the fifth grade, where Miss Peeleh relieved Miss Belling as our instructor Bob Btruyk and Joan Jensen I D C ' y ' , , l - J e e to a different school. transferred to different schools Leland Faber and Dorothy Oldenkamp joined the class making a total of ten members Among other main events of the year was a delightful Christmas Program and a school operetta, 'The Coming of Columbus' in which all the class members held minor roles l9b3 we all joined forces under the title of 'The Sixth Grade' Mrs Mcret and Miss Blom were our instructors Kenneth Kreykes was transferred to a different school One of the big events of the year was to be a Christmas play entitled 'Christmas at the Stebb1ns', but alas a flu epidemic stepped in and prevented us from giving it In l9Lh we continued our process of education with Mrs Horst and Miss Koele as our teachers During this grade Dale Slykhuis, John Smit, John Eernisse, Kenneth De Zeeuw Joined us 'United We Stand' a patriotic program was presented We had one, big enjoyable In 19L5 we continued on our last lap of elementary education John Smit was detained and Leland Faber and Dale Merrill were trans formed to another school Bob Struyk and Esther Schortinghuis Joined us with Mrs Moret and Miss Merrdink as our teachers, this year proved to be the most eventful year of our grade school education Among other events we enjoyed many exciting basketball games with neighbor Junior high teams and an operetta entitled, 'lulligan's Magic' W also enjoyed two picnics during the year one a farewell for Leland seemed to be quite eventful At the end of the year we presented a surprise play, 'Ten Per Cent Tcnmy', for our mothers and the entire grade school It was also during this year that an epidemic of puppy love struck many of the class members Thus ended our elementary education It was a bright sunny morning in September l9L6 when 16 'green freshmen' walked into the high school assembly The class included Verdean Blumeyer, Kenneth De Zeeuw, Leola Diekevers, Harriet Docrenbos, Lois Dcorenbos, John Eernisse, Shirley Kooiker, Eleanor Landhuls, Dorothy Oldenkamp, Ncrvan Roggen, Joan Rcns, Marilyn Salle, Esther Schcrtinghuis, Dale Slykhuis, Bob Struyk and Leonard Vander Heaven In 3 . . holiday on May 8th, when peace was declared. . e
