Roland M. Gourley Advisor We the editors of the 1962 Boomerang dedicate this book to student government and the students and faculty members who worked for it. During this year of great transitions there was a group of students who devoted much of their time and efforts to the furthering and strength- ening of Box Elder High school, new traditions, and student government. This group was the execu- tive council. Leading the executive council were three very capable officers — Alvin Anderson, stu- dentbody president; Stuart Curtis, studenlbody vice president, and Margaret Mason, studentbody secre- tary. These three students with the help of Mr. Gourley, their advisor, worked hard to please the majority and make the year the success that it was. In times past, as the school year began, the studentbody was asked to vote on whether they wanted student government or not. This year was no exception. As discussion of the pros and cons concerning government by the students began, a wonderful and enlightening thing happened. Many of Box Elder's conscientious students began to exer- cise their democratic rights and voiced their objec- tions to student government as it had been in the past. The resulting controversies were so great that the administration stated that the upcoming vote would be the last one. Therefore the students were faced with either accepting student government for good or else eliminating it from Box Elder for a number of years. After serious thought the student- body accepted student government by a large ma- jority, and it will remain as the main form of rule at Box Elder High school until further evidence war- rants another vote in the future.
