Douglas Discusses Asian Communism, Democracy U S Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas If the United States is to win against Communism in Asia, William O. Douglas, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, told a Social Science Symposium audience December 1 in the Union ballroom, Americans must take four steps. The idea that bombs and guns are the answer to the fight for men's minds in Asia must be dispelled, Justice Douglas explained. In addition, America must stop pouring money into underdeveloped nations in an at- tempt to buy loyalty and prestige, stop believing that keeping the status quo is the answer to the problem, and step up the training of young people to work with the people of new countries and guide them toward greater independence.
