Beta Pi Theta just last year the local French club, Cercle Francais, received its chapter from the Beta Pi Theta, national honorary French fraternity. To be eligible for membership, a student must not only have a high average in French, but also a high general scholastic standing. The chief purpose of the organization is to de- velop the University student in French, beyond what ordinary French classes can give, to encourage and maintain the highest possible literary and scholastic stand- ards, and to organize in the University men and women who recognize and award merit in productive French literature. The local group includes those members who have achieved in mastering the French language and its literature. Officers Preridenz ........ .......... .... Debate The speech department of Bowling Green has linished its most successful year, and has grown from six in 1919 to over two hundred in 1937. More than twenty debate teams entered one hundred thirty contests on three different questions: the Ohio Conference, one-house legislature, Mid-West, consumer's cooperative, and Pi Kappa Delta, minimum wage. Some big institutions met were New York Uni- versity, U. of Vermont, St. Thomas, Lemoine, and Colby, Maine. It has been the aim of Professor Carmichael to give a greater number of students experience in public speaking rather than to specialize with a few. The ever-increasing interest in speech work pays a fine tribute to Professor Carmichael's tireless efforts. Intermediate Club The Intermediate Club is one of the prominent organizations of this campus for two and four year students in Elementary Education. It was organized with the purpose of promoting the professional and social interests of elementary students. Thirty-tive per cent of the students enrolled in the Elementary Education Course are active members of the club. Through the advice and assistance of the sponsors, Miss Lorenz, Miss Day, and Dr. l-Ioppes, many successful social events have been achieved this year. Among these were the Home Coming Breakfast, a Christmas Party, Intermediate and Kindergarten-Primary Formal, and the Spring Banquet. President ..... . . .DoRoTHY Picicerr Vire-President .. ....... Mathematics Club The Mathematics Club was organized in the fall of 1932 to give students who were interested an opportunity to investigate unusual mathematical topics. The mem- bership is open to all persons who have had, or at the present time are enrolled in, Integral Calculus, but all interested persons are invited to attend the meetings. At these meetings reports on the attempted solution of famous problems such as the trisection of the angle and the squaring of a circle are a part of the program. It is hoped an affiliation with a national mathematical fraternity will be pos- sible in the near future as this would keep the club in touch with similar organiza- tions on other campuses. Under his able direction the Glee Club has been a success in the present as well as in the past. On its annual tour the Club gave concerts in the following towns: Lima, Kenton, Arlington, Attica, Willard, Milan, Huron, Bellevue, Clyde, and Wood- ville. The Annual Formal Concert together with the Annual Formal Dance was held on March 19, 1957, in the Practical Arts Auditorium. It was the biggest success of many years. The blending of the young men's voices added to the fine shades of interpretation made this event the supreme achievement of the Club this year. Oflicers Preridenz ............ .... K .
