'ffff f S. TI-IE SPEAKER so named as a living tribute to a revered and service-minded Pike Countian, Champ Clark, who was educator, attomeyg State Legislator, U.S. Congressman, and, in 1911, Speaker of the Sixty-second Congress of the United States, and who, in the presidential campaign of 1912, led on the first 27 ballots, but failed to muster the necessary two-thirds majority and was finally de- feated by Woodrow Wilson. Though bom in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, in 1850, Champ gave himself in service to the people in this area for 50 years and his funeral and inter- ment were held in Bowling Green, on March 2, 1921.
