Junior Debby Wilhoit and senior Mike Rogers emerge as champions of table tennis intramurals. First place intramural winners receive 65 points toward an intra- mural letter. Table Tennis hance to Earn School Letter Ernestine Shepherd and Dottie Deters battle for the ball in an intramural game. Teammates Janet Scherder and Donna Davis make ready to grab the tip off. Tournaments are held in the grade school gym and are open to the public. Becuase of poor par- ticipation, the games were almost discontinued last year but Coach Wilson agreed to give it another chance. Students taking part, are given points for at- tendance, games won, and tournaments won. Those with enough points receive a letter at the end of the year. DRS. Qffer Competitive Outlet Intramurals are school sponsored contests. Coach James Wilson, athletic director, is the supervisor. Intra- murals give all the students a chance to participate. Each year there are table tennis, volleyball, basket- ball, paddle tennis, badminton, flag football and soft- ball tournaments. Both boys and girls participate in all games except flag football which is for boys only and volleyball which is for girls only. lf I could just wham my typewriter like this! moans Louis Niemeyer--but he has to be content to take his vengence out on a volleyball. Test Youth for Fitness Each fall and spring, physical fitness tests are given as part of the P.E. program at BCI-IS and the scores from the seven events are averaged. Stand- ings of the students are then compared to the state and national averages. Sit-ups, pull-ups, broad jump, shuttle run, soft- ball throw, 50-yard dash, and 600-yard run are the testing areas. Tests are rated with an evaluation chart scoring 4 112 points for excellent, 3 for good, 2 for satis- factory, and 1 point for poor. Best possible scores are 31.5 for girls and 60 for boys. No records are established for sit-upsg 99 sit-ups earn an excellent score and students who reach that number are required to stop.
