The light in a person is hard to describe but it is something that is always there - like the sun. lt's light is never extin- guished but there are times when it's light is blocked out. Too many times people try to be like other people. They try to color or control their flames to look like other people but, each person is as good as another. Be yourself. Let your light so shine. 'V - ,M y-,h J. j, Students at B.G.H.S. were blessed with an added at- traction which only happens every four years, the presidential elections. Not only was it the year for a new president but also there was a vacated national Senate seat which had to be filled. Even though there were only a few students who were actually eligible to vote, many students really got involved in cam- paigning forthe candidate of their choice. Campaign buttons, bumper stickers, a decorated trophy case, and of course, Ms. Sloan's bulletin board, were a few ways in which students campaigned in their own special way. A mock election was held on Monday before election day in a way similar to a convention with each of the homerooms being represented by one person. A roll call was held and the Republican candidate won by a large majority. The one thing we all have to look forward to is getting to vote next time in a voting booth and knowing it will mean some- thing. Roy, when he isn't swimming or out on the field setting up plays for our football team is helping Mrs. Strange or working with Student Council. Martha Ann, a cheerleader and prominant member of Student Council, can barely find time for her other school and club obliga- tions. The Senior Class owes much to these two workers. The battle between the pair of unbeatens was characterized from start to finish by the usu breakneck pace, the type which used to be somewhat of rarity in the area until the last couple of years. While last night's game didn't have all the offensive highlights of last year's regular season 101-96 F-S victory at Franklin, it did have all the excitement of last year's classic battle. BG High's football coaching staff this year was a collection of men with new ideas for an old game. Their talents were visible on the field and inside the school. Their heads were never down following a tough loss because they knew that they had taught our team well. A loss after a hard game didn't prove we were a scrappy team - it showed who got the breaks and who didn't. BGHS owes our coaching staff much, much credit. For the past two years Coach Don Webb has shocked the public and his fans by coming up with one of the states best teams, and it wasn't any dif- ferent this year. With the out- standing performances of all the Purple Team, they proved that basketball is a very excit- ing sport. There were those times when the team just couldn't pull it through and when the last buzzer sounded we found ourselves behind with no chance to come back. But after coming from behind to win some games and then easily winning others, the Purple fans never knew just what to expect. -- W----K 1r.eavssmQ...,t .- W - iwf Fw' wiki gm 'Ky my .v EL if 'alt Z' ikgj ,gnu r sa ,i 'rn X V S r 6 5 Ns! X 183 F7 V-X Band Queen and King L., Band Dance On December 16, the Bowling Green High Band held their annual Christmas Dance at Potter-Gray Elementary School. The highlight of the evening came when reigning King and Queen, Jim Jones and La- Juana Wilcher, crowned the new monarchs, Barry Henry and Polly Hume. The court consisted of, left to right, third runners-up Ronnie Sowell and Barbara Taylor, second runners-up Rogers Bryant and Lynne Faxon, and first runners-up, Roger Bessinger and Sara Tate. Music for the evening was provided by a local group Stagger Wing. For Bowling Green High, the dream of going to State Tournament finally came true on March 8 when BGHS defeated Franklin Simpson by a score of 80-72. The score in no way can exemplify the excitement and tenseness as ev- eryone held their breath to see if BGHS would merge victorious and go All the way to State . The night was full of enthusiasm as all alumni and BGHS students celebrated by riding up and down the By-pass honking their horns and following a fire truck filled with the number one team in the fourth region. Of course, the next week was filled with pep rallies, banners and anticipation of that big trip to Freedom Hall. Sending the team off was an experience that no student or teacher will ever forget. Everyone but the teachers saw the team off in a parade all the way out the By-pass - everyone was behind their team! Being at Freedom Hall wasn't exactly like playing before a crowd at E.A. Diddle Arena, but nobody could say that BGHS was not repre- sented.Eventhoughwe had high hopes of defeating Danville things just didn't seem to turn toward BGHS and the final score showed us behind one single point. Even though the dream included the finals of the state, every- body was still proud of their team, well representing the fourth region. me i 'ij All the way to State' Z HV1' 'o i'?1 N .. The 1972-73 BGHS Baseball team had a lot going for them this year - even though they did have only 5 Se- niors. With a record of twenty-seven wins against only six losses the BGHS team defeated Warren East in the district tourney by a score of 3-0, advancing them to the region. They downed North Hardin and Glasgow but couldn't pull out the big one when Campbellsville defeated the BGHS team by a score of 5-2. Terry Hawk Jenkins, one of the 5 seniors, signed a pro contract with Kansas City Royals, and Steve Connors, also a senior received a baseball scholarship. The team has big plans for next season including a return trip to Panama City to play in an invitational tour- nament. XE E 1 1' 1 N 9' 54' ' . I - ,f,' I ,, ezzuff., II 1,424 , AW ,, , ,,.. Sallye Kelley CLASS GF '73 Valedictorian, Mary Lynn McCubbin and Salutatorian, Jerry Moore said a few en- couraging words to theclass. ik Polly Hume gets a kiss from her father as she receives her diploma. It was a beautiful night, June 1, and as the sun set on the football field at Bowling Green High School Stadium the Senior class of 1973 prepared to say it's final good- bye to Bowling Green High. As the tradi- tional Pomp and Circumstance was played by a unit of the band under the direc- tion of Mr. Karrick, the Senior class filed in dressed in caps and gowns. The invocation was given by Reverend Frank Jump and Dr. Graham welcomed everyone there, After the addresses of the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian, the Mixed Choir under the di- rection of Mr. VanArsdale sang Alleluia, Mr. Barriger then presented the class and the members of the School Board presented the diplomas. Then came the most emo- tional moment of the evening when the class of '73 sang their Alma Mater for the last time. The class was so excited about graduating, they didn't even wait for the Benediction or filing out, but gave a yell of pride and took off running.
