F. A. When the name Future Farmers of America is mentioned one usually thinks of a club whose sole interest is farming, but this idea is far from true. Besides Teaching farming programs, FFA encourages develop- ment of citizenship, leadership, thrift, and scholarship. Accomplishing all of these ideals keeps FFA one of the busier clubs in our school. During the fall of l958 the club took a tour of the proiects that each member is required to have. A corn show was also sponsored, with over seventy entries. Then a program for the promotion of farm safety was carried out. At Christmas time they gave help to a needy family. Later in the year FFA held its annual Parent and Son Dinner. There was also a livestock iudging contest. in the summer months FFA members enter projects at fairs. This year two of the members received State Farmer Awards. These awards went to Dick Bostdorff and Jim Maurer. Another FFA member, Dick Schwind, won the annual pest hunt again. The night-long festivities began with a smorgasbord supper served at lei-centered tables in the cafeteria. The smorgasbord table in the corridor was dec- orated with graduated tier containers brimming with colorful tropical fruits. A lattice covered with flowers was at one end of the dining room. The Pacific cruise atmosphere was heightened with fish nets draped along the walls in which startish and other marine life were caught. The corridor to the ballroom was turned into a gangplank of the Lurline. In one corner of the room stood an outrigger canoe. The punch table, sprinkled with orchids, was lighted with white tapers in the tops of pineapples. The Baum Brothers Orchestra played within an edged enclosure and a tropical background that contained a screen on which movies of Hawaii were proiected. The Grand March was led by the Junior and 'Senior Class Officers and their dates. A floor show was presented later in the evening by a college vocal group and a Hawaiian girl who danced the hula. Both classes were guests of the Cla-Zel Theatre at a showing of lt Happened To Jane, starring Doris Day, Jack Lemmon, and Ernie Kovacs. After this presentation the couples returned to the Rec Hall for square dancing and ended the gala affair with breakfast in the morning. The Junior Class will be remembered for their hard work and time spent on making this prom a success! I I .and going.
