Fascinat- ing, isn't he? John Ruel leans thoughtfully on the fence while The Inquiring' Reporter jots down revealing information she has just gained. Be careful, folksies, she tells all! Mrs. James Inman, nurse at good old B. G. H. S., evidently didn't want to pose for the purty picture. Dear, dear -we interrupted her just when she was saying good-bye to her hubby too- perhaps we'd better leave-excuse us please! Great day! VVhat have we here? Well, if it isn't Mr. Charlie Graham and M1's. Dorothy Bradford. Mr. Dale Gallier, the other janitor was absent when this picture was taken but it was because he was so terribly bashful, so we'll forgive him. Mussolini! Hurrah! All kidding' aside there is a resemblance between our Coach Hamm as he appears in this Wim 2 HlEI.PliD picture. and It:1ly's famed leader, now isn't there? Perhaps it's the way his hair is parted. Oh. wellAhe's a grand guy anywayiso there! Iloffom Ro11'x1i'vrrrl1'ng left to right: Over the top! Again the Bobcats are yictorious and their opponents take a severe trouneing. Oh well. it's all in the game, anyway. Watch the birdie! They did-these gentlemen who drive the school buses. Ooooh! Look at the lovely lassies! School girls? VVell, practically! Miss Marjorie Wentz and Miss Donna Simmonds, librarians at the public library, seem to be enjoying' themselves, don't they? Who have we here? Why, it's the office staff. Reading from left to right they are Lucille Phillips, Mary Robinson, 'lheone Cummings, Mrs. Grace Box, and Mrs. Gladys Ferrell. Look who's here-Mr. R. H. Rubrake, Spanish teacher and author! Deah, Deah! He looks pleased doesn't he? Wait until he sees this picture. SUlD1'lSK'tl, isn't he? They all are though, when they find themselves star- ing' into the eyes of a camera. This gentleman is Mr. Glenn, otherwise known as Curly, He was washing windows when this picture was taken. Nice photography, eh what? a ef 1 1 .5 Efi ADMINISTRATION .. .. ..,,,,.. .. ,..,, ,,,. Betty Beach sends her greeting' to the world in general and the sound echos clear up to the four corners. Oh, well, the police will think nothing' of it since they know our Betty. Good old Stacy! He certainly looks tired, doesn't he? Oh, well, he should. Everyone knows that he works too hard for his own good. fWhy sure!J Better watch out, Stacy, thf-re's someone be- hind you! Here is a View that should be familiar to all of you. It's the front of the building' taken from a diferent angle. Excellent photography, eh what? A worthwhile subject, too. Oh, boy! Hangzin' on a lamp post! Irma must think she's Venus. Oh, my, I forgot. Venus didn!t hang' on a lamp post, did she? Oh, well, I guess it doesn't matter, anyway. Now Mr. Itubrake, was that a nice thine to do? Don't you know that you shouldn't tell Mr. Skibbie jokes that make liim laugh and forget his dignity? After all, he must maintain his equil- ibrium. fOr am I wrong?7 Smiles Lehmann braves the wind and rain to make a public appearance. She has just finished rounding up the other people whose pictures appear here, and now that she's finished, she has a right to smile. Pretty damp out, though, eh, Nance? Mr. BI. M. Mercer, adviser and sponsor for the Hi-Echo staff poses for a snapshot by the cameraman who took these pictures. She was aided by Don Wolfe former reporter for the Sentinel Tribune. The blur in the picture is Irma. Good old Alec! He sits patiently, confident that next year will bring' an- other successful athletic season. Let's not disappoint him! Why buy a Scarlet Parrotg we have a yellow canary at home. This is the usual Tuesday morning exchange of greetings. Yet the people continue buying this newsy little newspaper. The greatest interest of the buyers is whether their names are in the paper. This is the cause of many of the personal columns such as Social News and the Inquiring Reporter. Someone made a remark somewhat to the effect of the following ques- tion after passing the open door of the Journalism room while the paper was in the process of making: How do they ever get anything done, for everyone seems to be talking at the same time? But they must have done a good deal in spite of the noise for the sheet was out regularly every Tuesday and it was readable, too. The editors deserve a lot of credit for putting out such a great small paper The alternate editors for the f1rst semester were Irma Stevens and Earl Smith Ila Gene Ash and Darwin Mayfield were the second sem ester editors Mr M M Mercer the instructor should be given a badge of bravery and patience for all the gray ha11s and lines of care that he has earned on this Job Don t stop this good work' 36 'r 'Qi' r I rl r lil 1 II 1 I 111 Stu 1 1rl 1 111 Ninn ld lfrlul. Cwell almost, anywayj . . . . . . . . have been sent forth into the cruel, cruel world from Bee Gee High, due to the super-splendiferousn accomplishments af the B. G. Dramatics Club. Of course we'll give Mr. F. G. Skibbie a little credit, for he cultivated the hidden talent in these young actors. This year the Dramatics Club presented two plays to the student body as assembly program material. One was Christmas Memories. The chorus sang various carols during the play. Frank Britt proved to the audience, to Mr. Skibbie, and himself that he could crack nuts even though he did have stage fright. In the second play, Vocational Guidance , Kenneth Harger was a successful business man Ccan you imagine thatl and Jeanne Waugh was his blushing secretary. Oh yes, the Juniors took parts in the plays also. When the club met, the members gave short plays after the business meetings Also various speakers talked before the club on many points of interest such as make up llghtlng the stage and stage furnishings May the students contlnue to let the final curtains fall in front of them as successful actors and actresses What does Greta Garbo or Robert Taylor have that you don t hate r r tx in rm mn R1 n Irina x Ill lx yn lr Nlar nc hi mr nl lhlrd K ss auk Britt X k Dirk lillllll page forty one ' 1 ' y - 1 I - 7 Y . lakh-rw Q , . .B ', as A X I Q A 9 .,. .Q vo 'F A . 1-sw. wi. .A -v 0' T' -G Fi S Row: BM I' Bu' , Ha-ily 1'-wk, Hn-tty Ig1'Ill'll, lmrolliy Me 'vl'. The theme carried out in the decorations was that of a ship's salon, and suggested farewell greet- ings. The speaker of the evening was Miss Edbrooke, exchange teacher in the Napoleon schools. Playing his first year of varsity basketball, Foster fitted nicely into the Bobcat machine. Dick played a steady game of ball and was termed by many as a ball hawk . Dick will he back next year and we are sure he will display an even better brand of ball. DON PATTERSON . . . t'Don had the tough luck of having a bum knee but even so he was a good passer and many a basket can be attributed to his unerringr shooting. If his knee is in good shape he will probably hold a regular position next year. JACK SIMONDS . . . Somewhat handicapped by his size, Jack could still stay in there with the best of them. His speed and clever ball handling baffled many oppon- ents. He should step into a regular position next year if he keeps up his stellar playing. page sixty two PATTERSON SIMONDS Senior H z' gh School FRED UHLMAN . . . Freddy was one of the best de- fensive men in Northwestern Ohio and also was a good long-shot. Uhlman never gave up but kept fighting until the game was over. As a Junior, Fritz started playing varsity basketball and since then he has developed rapidly. YVhen the other team had a fine offensive man Uhlman was assigned to guard him and he usually kept the threat-man from scoring many points. Sefzior Higfz School Coach Clayton Cook was very enthusiastic when nine lettermen re- ported for the 1937 track season. However, the progress was very slow as the team was hampered by rain and a soft track. Three of the meets Perrysburg, Maumee and Tontogany-were postponed because of unfavor- able climatic conditions. The first meet was almost a disaster as the Bobcats were beaten by a strong Bryan outfit, 105-27. However, the fact that the Bowling Green outfit placed in every event except the pole vault proved that they had the makings of a good team. Coach Raymond Rubrake issued the first call for 1937 Bobcat golf candidates on April 18. Kenneth Kidd and Dick Gernert were the only lettermen from last year. With only five days of practice and qualifying rounds the squad suf- fered a 6-12 defeat at the hands of the strong Sylvania team, Saturday, April 24 on the local course. The following Thursday they showed mid-season form by trouncing Maumee 11-7 on the home course. Friday, April 30, the Bobcats traveled to Sylvania and were once again set back 1115-615. The match was played on the Highland Meadows golf course. DeVilbiss was the next Waterloo for the Bowling Green outfit. Play- ing on the home course was no advantage for the Bobcats as they were soundly trounced 14-4. The Bobcats took to the road again and were partially successful in that they tied Fostoria 6-6. 'S llOP Swing music .... soft lights .... beautiful girls .... and lovely decorative effects set the keynote for one of the season's smartest social events, the Ilop sponsored by the Sophomore Cflass. Graham Riley and his orchestra from Tiffn swung into the first dance of the evening at 9:00 P. M. At 10 :UU I'. M. a spectacular floor show was presented by ll of lirica Ransome's specialty dance artists. Eight seventh graders served punch throughout the evening. Dorothy Mercer and Irma Stevens sang various dance numbers accompanied by the orchestra. Dwight Cross, as master of ceremonies handled his position with the ease of a professional. The gymnasium was transformed most effectively into a ballroom by seductive music, soft lights, and murmuring voices floating across the room by the gay and sleek dancers. It was only after a delightful evening that the guests regretfully departed. page Sl zu My page seventy sw ott mg Cin 71 N H 3 HNSTAHIATTON The formal 1l1flUCtlOl'1 cclcmonx was hcld fol thc membcls of thc 1937 Natlonal Honol Soclety 111 the cafetcl 1a ll cdncsday ex 61111151 May 26 The ent11e plogl am was 111 change of the alumm They had the room beautlfully deco1ated to CHIIY out the estabhshed 1d63lQ of the organlzatlon The center of 1nte1 est was the natlonal 1ns1g.,n1a around vshlch the entnc decolatlon schema lcxolxcd lalents and fllCI1ClS of the candldates wltnessed the 1mp1ess1xe celemonx Those membels yn ho VN916 1n chalge of the D1 oglam W e1e as follows George Beattle llfT31Q,'H1'Qt Zaugg Paullne Bates Nlary Lou1se Glbson Rachael Phllllps B111 Rothe and Fred Chambellaln cally speakmg Leadershlp chalactel and SQIXICQ vsele othe1 factols wh1ch we1e taken 1nto cons1de1at1on lixely vsolthy contllbutlon they have gn en to then h1g,h school was taken lnto consldclatlon In o1de1 to be elcctcd cach cand1datc had to ILCLIXO thc xotcs ot at least 14 oi the 16 voters Thls fact alone shows that thcse 12 people alc leplcsenta t1ve of the school as membe1s of the Nat1onal Hono1 Soclety To be a member 1n thlQ organlzatlon IS not only an honol but also a pllvllege Every members name IS placed on a bron7e tablet ln the lobby of the bulldlng and they ale the only people xx ho may xx ear thc oH1c1al emblcm of thls natlonal scholastlc 01g311lL3,t10I1 The 12 Senlols who have been honoled vwlth membelshlp ln the Nat1onal Honor SOClGtV thls yea1 are as follows Haruet McKn1ght Glendora Woods Irma Stexens Allce Carmlchael Betty Beach Rosella HCIHYQ DOTIS Flnch Dorothv Rothlock Darwln May held KenncthHa1g,er F1 ank Butt and Dlck Gernert 1 ,., .
