SENIOR CLASS HIS TORY September 5, 1943 we as Freshmen enrolled in the Bowler High School with twenty-nine students in our class. With spirits high and books in hand we were determined to become the dignified Seniors of 4-7 . These ambitious girls and bashful boys began a new life, hop' ing to overtake the goal set before them. At our initiation ceremony we took our medicine, but resolv' ed to get our revenge when we became Sophomores. Our first class party was held December 14, in the Bowler Fire men's Hall. In the late Spring we held a weiner roast at the Ranger Station. When school began in the fall of 194-4, we were Sophomores. People say that revenge is sweet. We were- impatient to initiate the new group of Green Freshmen. This year we slowly aquired a pink glow in place of the green tint. As juniors, we were successfully guided through the year by Mr. Speith, our Class Advisor. - The social highlights of our Junior year was the Junior Prom which was held early in May. Lawerence Breitenfeldt was elected King and he chose Jeannine Van der Veren to be his Queen. The music for the evening was furnished by Gail Shepardson's All Americans , The melody Twilight Time was the theme for our decorations. We had the largest crowd for a prom in the history of Bowler High School. When we began high school in 194-3, our goal was to become Seniors of 47 . We have attained that goal. Our Senior year is about the busiest year of our High School life. One of its accomplishments is this Annual. We worked hard and presented a three act comedy The Calamity Kids. During our four years at Bowler we found we had in our class many who were talented in Dramatics, Forensics, Band and Glee Club. We also are proud of the members of our class who have attained distinction as basketball players. Our class motto is Serve and Obey, our class .colors are Crimson and White, and the class flower is the red rose. CLASS Wim. We theclass '47, being of sound mind and having acquired knowledge at Bowler High School during the past four years, do hereby earnestly give our last will and testament. To Mr. Kingston we leave our thanks for coaching a winning basketball team which we hope will take the tournament. To Mr. Fisher we leave our Social' Problems for him to solve. To Mrs. Felts the boys leave their curiosity to see what's cooking and the girls want to take their knowledge of Homemaking with them. To Mrs. Stefl we will a little more time so she can have her Bookkeeping and Typing classes every day. To Mr. Moss we extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery from his headache over our play. ' To Mr. joos we leave our hopes for a more successful B team next year. To the faculty as a whole we give our sincere thanks for their efforts in trying to prepare us for the future. To Benny we leave our sincere thanks for picking up waste paper and for sweeping the Home Ec. room even though he still thinks the girls should do it. Thanks again, Bennyf' To the cooks we leave some handleless cups and other broken dishes along with out thanks for the good mia-day fill-up. To the Juniors we leave the task of being the perfect ideals for next year's Freshmen to follow. To the Sophomores we will our note-books, pencil stubs, erasers and empty ink bottles to do with as they please. To the Freshmen we leave the desire to become Seniors. Lawrence Breitenfeldt wills half of his curly hair to Eugene Voelz so Eugene doesn't have to get any more permanents. Sader Breitenfeldt wills his quiet disposition to Vernon Reinert. V Evelyn Buckoski leaves her position as F.H.A President to the girl that will further F.H.A. to the best of her ability. Isabel Buss leaves her knowledge of Bookkeeping to next year's Bookkeeping class. Wava Domke gives her chirogractic advice to anyone with displaced vertebraes. Class Will fCont.l Marion Erickson wills her ability to speak up in Social Problem class ito, Beverly Trinko. Betty Giessel wills her quick replies to.Esther Matz. Lester Hafferman wills his colection of pencils to Roland Watters, Shirley Hull leaves Bowler to take.over the trucking business in Gresham. Edna Johnson leaves her solemn expression to Dejon Goddake Otto Kolpack wills his number 44'? basketball suit to Ewald Wohler. Forrest Napstad leaves a sweater and shirt for Luella to wear. Lois Nygren wills some of her height to Betty Trinko in hopes that someday Betty may be as tall as her twin. Myrna Reinert leaves her job as Panther Editor to anyone who can manage it as well as she did. Delmar Schenk has nothing to leave, he needs his Ford. Marlea Schmidt wills her friendly attitude toward Grasham to Winona Miller. Marcella Strelow wills her art of making friends to Jeanne Malueg. Gladys Suehring bequeaths her position on the girls basketball team to Joan- Williams. Gene Umland leaves his practice of keeping late hours to any- one who can stay awake in school the next day. Jeannine Van der Vern leaves a fair warning to all the girls of BHS next year to lay off This being our last will and testament we sincerely hope that those who have been fortunate enough to be included in this will, will profit by it so as to better their lives. We hereby set our seal on this twenty third day of May.. nineteen hundred and forty seven Signed Witnesses: CLASS PROP HEC Y As I gaze into my crystal ball, one group of honored stu- dents seem to be foremost. It seems that they were never for- gotten. First of all we see: Otto Kolpack as the new basketball coach at Bowler High. Under his supervision they seem to be doing fairly well as they have just won the tournament in which Bowler competed with New York. Jeannine Van der Veren, after many threats from the game warden, has ignored him and got her Buck anyway. The game warden is none other than Mr. Kingston, who likes his new job much better than teaching. Lawrence Breitenfeldt has never forgotten what his ambition was. He has always dreamed of someday becoming a man. We find him now preparing breakfast for his children. What a man? Isabel Buss is a bookkeeper for Mr. Fisher. She has finally realized as Mr. Fisher so long ago said: Appropriate wages are necessary before establishing a home. Evelyn Buckoski is well established at her seamstress work. It seems, her latest order has been from Mrs. Felts, who has or- dered three dresses for her triplets. Lester Hafferman has just pulled up his traps. His catch consists of three mink, four muskrat, and one woman? Lois Nygren, after being Editor of the Bowler Gazette for a number of years has finally settled down in St. Paul. 4 Marion Erickson has quit her teaching profession to settle down as a housewife. Since the crystal ball has gone blank we'll take a guess. It's either Stevens Point or Tigerton. Marlea Schmidt is at her duties of-tteachingg Bowler Grade School We have heard a rumor which tells us she plans to resign as her hus band thinks she should take better care of their nine children. Sader Breitenfeldt seems torbe very happy o., bi-' .neat little farm. But then who wou1dn't with a honest, trustworthy, good con- versationalist at his side. He has acquired his ideals at Bowler High. Wava Domke is helping her husband establish his Chiropractic business on Hollywood and Vine in Tilleda. It seems his office is overflowing with patients as his wife is his receptionist. Class Prophecy fCont.j Betty Giessel is pan Artist. Her latest picture which is of world wide fame Kilroy Was Here is now hanging in the Art Institute at Bowler, Wisconsin. Gladys Suehring is well established in her well known Night Club at Caroline, Wisconsin. Her floor show consists of the great Edna johnson who is known throughout the world for her latest version of Open the Door, Richard. Delmar Schenk is still making his nightly trips to Mattoon as he hasn't as yet decided to say 'Yes'. Myrna Reinert is at home with her husband. There seems to be a haze over him which makes it impossible for us to tell you which one it is. Forrest Napstad is a well known Architect. At present he seems to be building an iron fence around a certain farm at Tilleda. We wonder why. Gene Umland, known as Mr. Gene Anthony Umland, is giving advise to others. His advise has saved many a man from destruc- tion. Shirley Hull is living in Gresham where she is assuming her duties as a housewife for her family. At present her husband is driving a load of Beef cattle to Green Bay. Marcella Strelow, after spending many years in Hollywood doing designing for all the Movie Stars, is now back in Milwaukee settling down in her new home. She has a maid and a Butler. Since I have seen the future of this Class. I can qnly add Good Luck. ' By Marcella Strelow Gladys Suehring. UNDER GRADS ll IUR CLASS First Row-L. Darling, j. Grosakupl, L. Rosenow, W. Miller. H. On October 15 a large group of enthusiastic boys were in the gym. For a couple of weeks they all were working for a position on the teams. With the opening game of the season the teams were cut to ten men each. The team did very well this season by winning 13 of 17 starts. Only one conference game was lost and the team has been progressing well all during ther season. Next years team is going to miss the three Seniors who were on the first five this year, although Coach Kingston has a fine nucleus with which to build a new team. The Seniors who have played their last high school tournament are Lester Hafferman. Otto Kolpack. and Gene Umlnnd. TOURNAMENT We were again fortunate to have the Wolf River Valley Conference tournament at the high school gym. As Wittenberg is in class B competition they did not attend the tournament. Gresham, playing independently for the last several seasons, took the spot vacated by Wittenberg. The prep-tournament predications had White Lake and Bowler as the favorites. In the first game of the tournament Birnarnwood led the Lakers until the last period when the latter forged ahead on three quick baskets to win a close one 34 H' 33 after two overtime periods and two rounds of free throws. In the other games Rosholt ran away from Mattoon by a score of 55 - 33 and Scandinavia took Gresham ' at a score of 26 - 18. 'The third and most interesting night of the tournament saw Mattoon beat Gresham 32 - 21. Bowler beat White Lake 48 - 42 in a very hard fought battle. White Lake led the Panthers by one point with four minutes leftf A couple of sleepers by the Bowlerites put ,them in front for keeps. The Scandy five hadieveryone on 'their feet as they lost to Rosholt by a 26 - Z5 score. The Scandy zone kept Rosholt at a safe distance from the goal. They led 25 - 22 with I minute- left but two quick baskets by Rosholt put the game on ice. In the consolation game of the tournament Birnamwood won easily over Mattoon 49 - 31. The Championship game got off to a-slow start with Rosholt leading 4 - 3 at the first intermission. Bowler finally found the range in the last half and rang up a victory over Rosholt 51 - 28 Ted Fritsch of the Green Bay Packers handed out the awards to the four teams that participated in the last night of the tournament. The Mattoon cagers received bronze metals for fourth place. Birnamwood received copper metals for taking third place. Rosholt received silver metals for second place and 'the Panthers received gold metals signifying first place. The trophy was awarded to Mr. Kingston by Ted Fritsch. It will remain in the school building, and be engraved with the names of the first ten, the coach, and the mana- ger. Mr. Kingston, taught the girls the rules of regular girl's basketball. They were also taught how to shoot free throws, how to stand while shooting, lay-up shots, pivoting. and--best liked by all--scrirnaging among themselves. Besides the scrimaging done among themselves, the girls had a game with the freshmen boys, the score being 16-6 in favor of the boys. The girls also had a game with the Aniwa girls in which they were defeated by a score of Z0-5. Permanent positions were hdd by the following: Forwards- Wava Domke, Patsy Buelter, and Gladys Suehrlng: Guards-Marion Erickson, Betty Putnam, and Winona Miller. All girls, how- ever. were given a chance to play, alternating in the positions formerly mentioned. The girls are now convinced that to be successful ln playing, you have to be alert at all times. The first project was the reorganization of the library. The Dewey-Decimal System was used to number all books. A subject card. two title cards, and an author card were made for each book and filed in a new card catalog. A new shelf list and a new accession list were also made. The advanced typing class typed all of the cards.
