REGIONAL RUNNER-UP --11 Coach Lemmon's 1959-60 .Tackrabbit team with their managers, Dale Andreasen and Charles McMillion. BOBBY MCKINLEY Captain-Forward All District All Area All State The 1959-1960 Bowie High School basketball season was another success- ful one for the Bowie boys. The Jackrabbist annexed their tenth district championship in the last eleven years which was their 13th in the last fifteen years. The Bowie basketeers won their bi-district contest with the Lake Worth cagers and their first round of regional play against the strong New London quintet from East Texas. Bowie's only loss of the season was to the Linden-Kildaire boys from Cass County in the regional finals at Denton. The same team finished their sew-on without loss and was the only team in Texas to have such a record as they became state champions in class AA for their first title. Bowie won the consolation title of the Bi-State Meet at Lawton, Oklahoma and the same honors at the Denton Invitational Meet and the Ft. Worth Lions Club Christmas Meet. In non-conference play the Iackrabbits met such fast teams as Graham, Denton, Sherman, Grand Prairie, Lawton, Arlington Heights, Brewer, and Eastern Hills. Bobby McKinley and Tommy Power along with Jerry Cantwell and Tommy Newsom will be lost by graduation, but all others will return for what promises to be another strong team. 4.1- i Bow1e Opponents . , YP-lagggsz . .f .Q , ,- '35, r -4 .iz 5 A A- Iv- 'try . nf V GILLILAND TERRY BRADFIELD TOMMY POWER JERRY CANTWELL TRA IS Guard G All Dlstrlct Honorable Mr-:nt1on State Bow1e Slldell Slldell Arlmgton H Denton Pampa Pampa Graham Poly Sherman Grand Pra1r1e Denton Graham Perc1al Lawton Arlmgbton H Carter R1vers1de Lakeworth uard Forward Forward Opponents Eastern H1lls Brewer Electra Ponder Nocona .Tacksboro Burkburnett Olney Decatur Electra Nocona Jacksboro Burkurnett Olney Decatur Lakeworth New London Llnden Bobby McK1nley smks two agalnst Olnev qs. The 1959-60 Bowie Girls' Basketball team posted one of the finest records in Bowie High School history. After winning district and bi-district, the girls went on to win the Regional Tournament in Denton, which earned them the right to travel to Austin to participate in the annual state finals. Having lost to Friona in overtime, they played Brazosport for consolation honors and a third place in Class AA, Coach Jean Bridgewater is to be congratulated for her splendid job of coaching, and the girls are especially to be congratulated for the important part that they played in making the Bowie Cirls basketball team the third best class AA team in Texas. The team loses only two starters, so they might prove to be very potent next year. SYLVIA ANDREASEN .TEAN BRIDGEWATER CAROLYN ALLEN Forward Coach Forward All-District AU-District Hon. Men.
