The girls won lst place in the Krum Tourna- ment, Znd place in the Decatur Tournament, and the Consolation Championship in the Duncanville Tournament. They made a near-perfect record in district play, losing only one game, to Olney. The tie for first place in the district between Bowie and Olney resulted in a play-off from which Bowie emerged victorious. Next the girls stopped Northwest High for the Bi-District title and a ticket to the regional play-offs at Denton. The highly successful 1959 season ended when Brewer handed down a narrow defeat in the regional tournament. Everyone feels that these girls have done a splendid job this year. Since all but one of them, Louise Eldgin, will be back next year, these girls, judging from their fine 1959 record, should go all the way next year. v6 ' .J - 'Of' , 1- .f A , xv Louise and Linda tangle for a Decatur rebound. Track is becoming increasingly popular in Bowie lligh's athletic department. All boys who play football in the fall are required to participate in track or field events in the spring. Last year Bowie High's track team won the district championship. This year the team won the Team First Place trophy at the Possum Kingdom Relays, and the 440-yard relay team won first place and set a new record. Several of the boys went to the Cowtown Relays in Fort Worth, but, since they were competing with some of the biggest schools in Texas, none of them qualified for the finals. Nevertheless, the team is off to a great start and should repeat their last year's performance by retaining the district crown this year. ,on ' ,. . 4.4 Q t Q1 ml -n , 440-YARD RELAY HURDLES 880-YARD RELAY Jerry Miller, Bobby Corneligon, Johnny Floyd, Bobby Sinks, Terry Roy Cornelison, Lee Cordell Jimmy Hacker, Johnny Floyd.
