Another winning record was placed on the books by the Bowie High School basketeers this season with a final season record of 28 wins and 6 losses. The Jackrabbits faces were all new this season for the starting team. Allofthe first five last season graduated. Coach E. C. Lemons also directed the varsity team for the first time replacing Coach R. E. Mattingly who completed a fine ten-year record. High lights of the 1954-55 season included consolation championships in the Denton College and Wichita Falls Invitation meets and the first place title in the annual Bowie High School Invitation Meet. Bowie also topped the district again for the sixth straight time and reached the bi-district game with Lancaster before being eliminated in Interscholastic League competition. Bowie and Nocona ended the regular district play in a tie, but Bowie won the season thriller 56 to 55 in the third game and the victory gave them a pass to the regional play with Lancaster. The Bowie boys this year offered repeated close and thrilling contests to followers who like the excitement ofa close basketball game. A last quarter rally pulled a close one out of the fire at Slidell and extended the Bowie win streak to 77 consecutive games over a three-year period. Bowie came frombehind in the Decatur game and wonatwo point margin contest with seven seconds to go. All three games with Nocona were close, butthe third game at Denton that was won with a last Z-second goal by Horace Thompson was a thriller that will live on with Bowie fans. Bowie lost some close ones too. A double overtime to Quanah in the Wichita Falls Meethad every fan on his feet and the final game at Denton with the Lancaster quintet went into over- time before the Bowie boys bowed by two points. Ten Jackrabbit victories were won over teams in classes 3-A and 4-A. Wichita Falls fell before the Bowie boys in another thriller in the finals of the Bowie meet and before a capacity crowd. 2 if sl- x Bowue fue recmxc f1rst place trophy at the Bom 16 Inx 1tat1onal Tournament The managers comparmg notes Monroe gets the t1p off agamst Jacksboro T 'r xi: ' E Q' IQ , X Q A x , X .X 1 5 ., if F ,ir fy? um' M X9 I? f fi .T D ROACH JOHNNY RICHARDSON CARROLL WINN BENNIE CARVER Guard Forward Guard Guard I-,ii :gpg Asus Viva yu? at J D Jumps hlgh to take the ball from a Ga1nesv1lle- player fb Ip Q Luke at h1S usual t1me keepmg Job A Student rootmv SPCt10l'l at the game l i REQ fri.
