'cl 3' '- I 1 l With the utmost sincerity we wish to dedicate this edition of The Iackrabbitn to Coaches Mat- tingly and Massey. The coaches work hard with the boys the year ar ound and endeavor to instill in them the prin- ciples of sportsmanship and citizenship which are essential to a well developed character. Not only have they shown great ability in the field of coaching, but they have displayed the same qualities in their classroom teaching. Their loyal attitude and persistant courage have won for them the deepest respect and admiration of the boys with whom they work, the entire school, and the community. Because they have given so unselfishly to the advancement of Bowie High School, we hope that this dedication will in a small way repay them for their patience and helpfulness. Massey fielded a squad of scrapping young jackrabbits from whom more will be he a rd next year, and the next! From the standpoint of statistics the record does not seem so impressive, but the real spirit of the boys and their coaches is seen in that thirty-three boys completed the season--the largest number in the history of Bowie High School. Since only two members of the squad are seniors, we are expecting thirty- one lettermen and squadmen to return next year. We are proud of our foot- ball team. Although outscored, they were never beaten into submission and we like their staying power! Several of our boys were honored by being chosen members of the All Dis- trict Teams of class 12-AA. Sm Aww Haze 72m Bowie's Jackrabbits did the unexpected in basketball in 1952 when they chalked up their second consecutive state championship with wins over Madisonville and Levelland in the State Meet at Austin. The state title made Bowie the fifth team in 32 years to win two straight championships. The Jackrabbits reached the finals in Austin by winning three games in the regional meet at Denton from Pleasant Grove High School of Dallas, Mt. Pleasant and Van. The district record was seven wins and one loss. The big disappointment of the year was the loss of first place in the Bowie Invitation 'Tournament to Wichita Falls. The final score was 46 to 43 and gave the Coyotes the first leg on the big 3-year trophy. Bowie had won the Decatur College Tournament the preceding week with a final win ox er Birdville in the finals Individual honors won this year included unanimous all state by Charles McGannon and Temple Tucker In the Decatur College Meet all tournament honors were won by Ed Rob inson John Carver and Charles Garrett In the Bowie meet all tournament honors were won by Temple Tucker John Carver and Charles Garrett Temple Tucker scored the high est game total for class AA bracket in Austin with 30 points in the final contest Tucker also set a new scoring record for Bowie players for one season with 602 points for the year Basketball fans are looking forward to 1953 with only two players on the squad in the senior class Charles Garrett and Charles McGannon will be lost by graduation Coaches Mattingly and Massey and the State Champs being honored at the Basketball Banquet given by the Quarterback Club .k g .V , L.
