These are things that the general public little r e alize s, but you pupils will r e alize it in later life as you look back on the school days of 1948-4.9. Your parents realize it when they see improvement that has taken place' in you. Your superintendent is delighted and pleased when he sees li:Ee's balance sheet appear in the fine type of citizen turned out by the plans which he so carefully mapped out for all of you. The 1948 football season at Bowie High School carried t he jackrabbits to the quarterfinals ofthe first state class A rac e. The season marked the second regional title for Bowie in three years and their third consecutive district championship. Bowie opened the season at home with an easy 19 to 7 win over Olney. A trip to Electra netted a surprise 18 to 6 victory that was much more decisive than the score tells. Bowie was host to the Arlington boys, and a high scoring game ended in a Z7 to 21 Bowie win. The jackrabbits journeyed to Decatur to open their defense of the district title and were held to a 6 to 6 tie in a game that was marked by Bowie fumbles. With a two-weeks' period of prepai-ation,the Bowie Boys invaded jacksboro and ran rough-shod over the Tigers 39 to O. The following week the trip to Henrietta was also a lop-sided win, 39 to O. An undefeated Wichita Falls Rowdie team came to Bowie to get its first defeat and a decisive one---the final score Z8 to O. With the championship at stake, the Bowie boys played well and drubbed the much la r g e 1' Indians 13 to 0. It was the third year the Indians had failed to score on Bowie. The bi-district game with Holliday was played at the Coyote Stadium in Wichita Falls, and the game was the most thrilling of the season. Bowie w on a close one, 14 to 13. The jackrabbits met Irving in the regional contest at Farrington Field in Ft. Worth and won Z0 to 7. The final game was at Dal-Hi with the b ig New London team from East Texas. Bowie played well, but fell before the East Texans 38 to 12. The loss stopped thejac kr abbit s two games short of state title.
