MM aww THE 1947 FOOTBALL SEASON With eight 19461ette r me n returning and a remainder of Cottontails and beginners, the 1947 Jackrabbit squad was not slated to made such a s howing as it did the year before. less, with a week of r e s t at Camp Perkins and its coaching staff, it turned out to be a bunch of pretty customers after all, was first proved when they s how e d Olney they didn't the half time score of Olney 6-Bowie O and came back re s ult of.Olney 6-Bowie 14. They figured maybe might need a little special practice, so the next week took on the Class AA team of Quanah. While up there, discovered they were playing a team called Indians with orange and black for color s, and before they knew it, they ran up a score of Bowie Z7-Quanah 7, ln the following conference games the Rabbits continued to mount scores hig he r than the previous ones---Bowie 33- Decatur 12 , Bowie 33-St, Jo O, and Bowie 39-Jacksboro 12, until the Henrietta game when they s e ttled for a 33-7 tally. They got back on their feet in the next game withNewcastle and paraded up and down the field to the tune of Bowie 53- NCWCGSHC 0- The Wichita Falls Rowdies were even harder hit by the Bunnies with a score of 54-0. The Rowdies had one rough player though, a tackle by the name of Lime Burns. Along about the time of the Nocona game, it seems the w eathe r,alon g with the competition, became a good bit stiffer. But the jackrabbits did the better job of keep- ing the mud out of their eyes and came through to win 6-0 to cop the 13-A District title. Matting ly, Tuttle , W ood Almost everybody in Bowie went to the Bi-district game with Diamond Hill at Farrington Field, Fort Worth, but to those who thought it dull and forgot the score , it turned out to be Bowie 7-Diamond Hill 6. For the second straight year the Ja ck ra bbit s returned to D ent on to battle for the Regional Championship. But unfortunately, it seemed that Irvin g was there, too. Irving, it appeared, believed in turn about fair play, for they decided to win. The jackrabbits didn't agee with t h e m and didn't give up until the final whistle, which ended the game---Irving 2.0-Bowie 0. The jackrabbits finished the 1947 season with a superb record---21 consecutive wins. amide!! .Squad r 4,3-,:.gP5,'re7 1 , f vas ' fi , . x' J' 3 , 1 I F3 .Till C1 - ' 'L-vas' 1' 28 , 4 -H155 a X l 3 r ta Sonny Cantwell Halfback J -:I Q '-jL. -' 4 ,4'f7'T' . ., .. ,,, .
