In compiling this yearbook, we, the staff, have endeavored to record your work, your play, activities, failures, and triumphs. Take it, keep it, and cherish it, for it is a record of years which will never pass again---your youth. Now The jackrabbitu is yours. May it forever keep alive the flame,of friendships and associations acquired during this, our most happy school year. ...AALA A DEDICATIO To the jackrabbits of 1946 and their coaches, who nave brought, fame, honor. and glory to Bowie High School, we gratefully dedi- cate this year book. Not only have they shown great ability in the field of football, but. have displayed the same qualities of sportsmanship, team work, and leadership in all activities throughout the entire school year. PICKETT I SUPERINT ENDENT ' S MESSAGE There will soon be the close of another school year and my mind is running upon the rapidly recurring months andthe stream of students whose lives are touching ours, and then going out into the busy world. You have been taught how to look into the parts of life and analyze it but you must also be able to put all these things together and get a clearer picture of your ultimate goal. You have been brought not only into a store of knowledge and facts. but we have tried to familiarize you with conditions and theories and problems, so that your powers may be aroused and that you may after- wards be able to get your own lessons and then do them. Your superintendent hopes that you have had a fine year. If you can analyze and put together, to see life thoroughly and to see it whole, then he is glad. Keep the high ideals and purposes taught you in Bowie High School so that you may function effi- ciently as a citizen, because our Nation needs that type of citizen for its program of reconstruction, Uf'u,,,8. , , 'T PRINCIPALHS MESSAGE My sincere wish is for a successful record for each pupil in order that our 1947 jack- rabbit will offer a lasting pleasure to all. This team could flourish either a rapid firebrand ball, or could settle down to a tight conservative game, doing both often. The team was composed of eight returned lettermen and one of the largest array of squadmen ever to 'come out. The jackrabbit used their height and all court savvy to win the Hardin Invitation Tournament, went on to win the District, Bi-District, and Regional Championships and advanced to the State Meet in Austin. There they won two games, only to be defeated in the Finals by East Mountain. This was their fifth defeat of the season. They had previously won twenty-five games with an average of 43 points a game to their opponents 25. This was the ,Iackrabbits second time to playin the State Meet and the first time for a B.H.S. team to advance as far as the finals. jack- rabbits, we congratulate you on the marvelous record you have made this season. They have completed in the regular district schedule and have played a number of practice games. The girls had a rather successful year since they were all inexperienced, not only with the game, but also with the technique of the game. Miss Butler was untiring in her training of the girls, but because of ill health she was forced to give it up, and Mr. Stephens finished out the season. Both were assisted by Clifford Wall, who gave valuable help to the team. The -Iackrabbit Band, because of its precision marching,exce11ent concert play- ing, and all- around show - off perforrnances, has long been a drawing card for large audiences. Although many students have been lost through graduation, each year Director Rucker has de- monstrated his ability to turn out a top rating band. This was proved again this year in the two contests and numerous events the band entered. DIRECTOR GEORGE RUCKER B.H.S.
