SENIURC ASS lil TDRY As we came here in that first September back in 1952, we were told, WYou are the class of '56.u It is now 1956 and almost time for the good-byes. But we are anticipating several things, among them being the Junior-Senior Prom, graduation, and a Senior trip.A Also, we can look back at our many pleasant experiences of the year, a Senior Variety Show, Senior Play, a Christmas Ball, and others. We chose our class colors, which were lavender and white, and our flower is a lavender carnation. Our Senior officers are: President-Kent Dittmerg Vice-Pres- ident-Russell Schochg Secretary-Beulah Barrigarg Treasurer-Marilyn Andrewg Reporter-Roberta willardg and our sponsors are Mr. and Mrs. George Davis. At the beginning of this last year, we had five members less than when we were Juniors. Those who left us were: Gerry Carr, who joined the Air Force: Robert Phillips, who is now a Senior at Mendong Marjorie Graham, a Senior at Macomb High: Bill Welch, a Senior at Carthage Highg and Eulah Barrigar who married Robert Strong of Keithsburg. Some of us have been classmates all during our school years. Samm Ramsey and william Corse have gone to Bowen all twelve years and Ina Carol James and Adeline Rosendale attended Rosehill School for three years and the other nine at Bowen. Also, Beulah Earrigar and Max Scott attended five years at Clayton and seven at Bowen. As thirty-five eager Freshmen, we had one consolation in the fact that we were the largest class in school, which helped us set a record of twenty tubes of lipstick used in our Indian style iniation. We soon became used to our new surroundings and started into high school activ- ities, electing as our first President, Eulah Barrigar. We were very proud to have originated our annual Variety Show which has proved to be very successful and provided lots of fun and work. Other activities were F.H.A., F.F.A., G.A.O., and our Girls Ensemble was formed. In our Sophomore year, thirty-four members answered roll call, with Alvie Gardner going to Fort Madison, Jimmy Elder joining the Air Force, and Sandra Vest getting married. The latter part of the year we gained one member, Russell Davidson. Earlene Nichols was our Sophomore President and some of our Sophomores helped form a Pep Club which we needed to help cheer our basketball squad on to a position in the Sweet Sixteen. We had an extra feeling of pride because one of our classmates, Bill Welch, who helped us gain this honor, was on this squad. Our Junior year was a busy one with the loss of another of our classmates, David Tanner, and the addition of a new member, Russell Schoch. Also, Earlene Nichols and Shirley Homan were married. we were happy to receive our classrings on January fifteenth. Under the direction of Mrs. Avis Preyt, we presented our Junior Play, nSeventeen is Te1rific.' The play cast was: Gerry Carr, Sharon Carr, Charles Bennett, Roberta Willard, Samm Ramsey, Ina Carol James, Cheryl Cramer, Dora Mae Junk, Kay Webster, Max Scott, Shirley Scheuermann, and Harold Veach. we worked hard on the Junior-Senior Prom choosing as a theme Nhoonlight and Roses.n Our work was rewarded with a successful prom. These are the statistics for the class of '5o, they list some of the concrete accomplish- ments of an active class. And perhaps they hint at the more importantintangiablethingsg the satisfaction of putting together and giving a play yourselves, or the thrill of cheering a great ball team to the top and just as important the heartbreak with them when the odds become insur- mountable as they usually do if you go far enoughg there are the many friendships with your classmates and teachers, gthen there is the feeling of getting up before your schoolmates to receive your medal for practicing a song until you're scared to death and singing it better than you thought you could, and of'course your encounter with the world of books and knowledge often delightful, sometimes frightening but always a challenge. These are the things you remember which is as it should be, because they were our high school days. And now as we are getting ready to leave dear old Bowen High, we would like to leave you with our motto which is: WOut of School Life, Into L1fe's School.n ,I T '3-g lg- glllly' 4, Egiv, 'Fl' !E:I,1llllY -iiiiji: in gee Indeed! -' 'I F - Th e S enlors of 1956 have made lusioq -. 1 C' H I A fm ssfs?5 5, '- -U 4 .7' 54? -' J Cl 770, Q 9? as r- wr!! w.
