Graduated from Hallowell Classical School, studied at School of Drawing and Painting, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, under Otto Grundmann, and Frederick Crowninshield, 1882-85, winning two scholarships , studied in Paris, 1885-88, as first private pupil of Benjamin Constant, in Academie Julien under Boulanger and Lefebvre, and one year with Carolus Durand.
