Meeting And Making New Friends Kindergarten learned the skill of communication during their first year at Bow die Public School. Learning the beginning sounds of the alphabet was helpful knowledge in communication. A special highlight of the year was making a Valentine for their mothers and fathers. They also walked to the Post Office and mailed it, where the postmaster explained the process of stamping and sorting letters. Second Graders Explore The Community Second graders were busy learning about their community and visited the following places: Post Office, Library, Museum, Fire Station, Ambulance, Rope Factory, and Bank. The second graders completed several projects during the year. One project was learning how to paint with liquid embroidery. Their Christmas projects included deco- rating their tree with hand-made ornaments and making wishing wells for the parents. Besides learning how to do math problems, they wrote a let- ter to their friends, and they also learned how to address the enve- lope. The second graders had a very active year especially considering that they were combined with the first grade. BACK ROW: Left to Right; Melanie Simon, Tammy Thomas, and James Leidholt. Rory Huff, Jerrad Hoffman. Ausland, and Mrs Hermrich, teacher's aide. First Graders Honor Special Person Choosing one child each week to be the special person was an activity of the first graders. Pic- tures, toys, and posters were put up in honor of the special person. The first graders were taught the basics of patriotism when they learned the Pledge of Allegiance and recited it to the Legion Auxil- iary. They were rewarded an American flag. They also learned the song America and sang it every morning. Classes, parents and friends were entertained by a puppet show put on by the first graders. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mrs Bieber. Kimberly Zimmer.
