Bobcat 1981 Presented By The Annuat Staff Of Bowdle High School Bowdle, South Dakota 57428 — Volume 62 — Char and Lori are showing Stan their apprecia- tion. Stanley ft ‘‘Steams Stanley taking it easy in his office during one of his “few'' breaks. We'd like to take this time to honor and thank the person everyone depends on at BHS. He is well-liked by everyone and has a great sense of humor. He is cheerful and always has a smile on his face. This person is our custodian, Stanley Zimmer, better known to everyone as Skyhook”! Many a time we hear the familiar voices on the intercom yelling, Stanley, you’re wanted in the office. Teachers seek him out to fix typewriters, water pipes that have broken and flooded their rooms, pencil sharpeners, and various other things. We don't realize how much Stan does for us. He's the first to arrive at school and the last to leave. He's the one who deans the gym for the BB players when it gets to slippery. He sweeps up all the paper in the classrooms the students fail to put in the wastebasket. He turns off the lights everyone seems to forget to shut off. During the summer when we're on vacation, Stan makes sure the school is cleaned from top to bottom. To Stan we say, Thank-You for everything you've done for us and for putting up with all our nasty habits. Without you we wouldn't have the neat and dean school we have now. So. Stanley in our own little way we would like to thank you by dedicating this 1981 annual to you! Keep up the good work and may you have many more happy years at BHS. Remember a little bit of us and our memories live on in you! 1981 Annual Staff Annual Staff poses with their “Man of the Year . Mary has caught Char and Stanley in one of his favorite pastimes. Flirting with the Girls!! 4 CLASSES The Senior Class of 1981 can be charac- terized by one amazing quality—friendship. Through friendship, this class has been able to stand tall and stay together over all the rough spots. This friendship has helped them to make many memories of each other that will be treasured for a lifetime. As this year drew to a close, many more memories were added during their last homecoming, last home game, last prom, and other famous lasts for the seniors. All these memories will endure, but the biggest was yet to come: Graduation! As the big day neared, these 20 seniors looked back on all the things they had gone through together. During all these years, many different classmates have touched their lives and then moved on their separate ways. Maintaining class spirit'' yet living (almost) in harmony with another class calls for a delicate balance. This challenge was successfully met by a very special group of seventh and eighth graders who learned not only the traditional 3 R's but also two additional R’s: responsi- bility and respect for self and oth- ers—both vital ingredients for successful students and a suc- cessful class. The Eighth Grade's major pro- jects for this year have been the mock election they held in Novem- ber and moving right along to- wards their diplomas L to R: BUCK ROW: Darwin Haar, John Bauer. These changes include more homework, varsity band and chorus, and being in a combined class with the eighth grade. The seventh graders enjoy being in ju- nior high, despite the extra work it entails. The class also studied about their home state of South Dakota. Each child sent for information about a city in South Dakota and they wrote reports about that city. They also made salt flour maps of South Dakota. Their big art project for the year was making string designs. Nine out of the twelve students also participated in band. A tour of The Bowdle Pioneer, which went along with our newspaper unit in English, was another highlight for the fifth graders. Highlights Of Twelve Years The student librarians were a big help to Mrs. Person in her first year as librarian. They were better acquainted with the library and its workings than she was, so togeth- er they worked at making the li- brary more accessible. Moving and rearranging books, labeling maga- zine files, making bulletin boards, and covering new books were some of the librarians functions. Day-by-day tasks included putting out new magazines and newspa- pers, checking out books and mag- azines, and putting books back on the shelves (a seemingly, endless task). Playing boys catch the girls, “i- m-peach , Mary Wahl’s Finger- nails, and John Abbey's ears are just a few memories we will never forget. We will never go back to our first days of school, but we will always remember all the good times we have had; such as Sen- ior Skip Day and going to Pierre to visit the Capital and the Funeral Home. Oh, yes, and how could we forget our great reputation as sophomores. But look at us now in two years we have become Mlevel- headed young adults. We started with twelve boys and five girls in kindergarden and now we are ending with ten boys and ten girls as seniors. Shelly Beadle A student, underclassman, classmate, relative, and most of all, a friend has passed through our lives once again. It is so hard to accept the death of someone who is so young and had so much to look forward to. He will never eiperience the joy's and heartbreaks of high school as many of us already have. He brought many smiles to our faces with his cute pranks and unique laugh. Remember how he blushed when the girls teased him about his pretty eyes and long eyelashes. Oh, and how can we ever forget seeing him sitting in Mrs. Berg's office awaiting the verdict. Darvin Walz was a special person to many of us. He was always happy and alive only to be called from this life by a tragic accident. His death has put sorrow in our hearts and minds only to be comforted by our memories of him. As our last message to Darvin, we'd like to say Good bye! We loved you, Darv, and we're going to miss you!
