PROGRESS Roberta Nies Arlene Sandmeier Joel Schmierer Owen Schumacher One of the bigger highlights of the year was the choosing of the wait- ers and waitresses for the Junior- Senior Prom. These are chosen by the junior class. The waiters chosen were: Owen Schumacher, Lyle Perman, Lyle Schock, and Dale Bobby. The waitresses chosen were: Roberta Nies, Colleen Buechler, Linda Rieger, and Wynne Blumhardt. This duty is considered a great honor but also a lot of work. Another important responsibility for the sophomores was the Senior Tea. The tea is held after the baccalaureate services in the school lunch room. This tea is a chance for the sopho- mores to do something special for the seniors. These and many other jobs help prepare the sophomores for the hard work involved in being a junior next year. Taking it easy are: SOPH’S The sophomores had many tasks to perform this school year. One of the main tasks was the build- ing of the pre-homecoming game bonfire. The boys were required to gather the wood for the bon- fire which took lots of time and effort. The bonfire was a huge success and was enjoyed not only by the high school students but also by the many observers. While the boys were preparing for the bonfire, the girls were preparing for big victory dance following the game. The sopho- mores were assisted by the freshmen girls in this duty. As sophomores, a skit was also re- quired of the class. This skit was entitled, The Unexpected . k

Pictured above is this class in session. The freshmen find that high school life is very dif- ferent compared to the junior high level. They now have the opportunity to change class rooms and use the study hall to a greater extent. They also enjoy the use of the new student lounge. Throughout the year, there are many activities that involve the participation of the entire class. Begin- ning with Homecoming, the class is required to clean up the remaining bits and pieces of the big Home- coming bonfire built by the sophomores. The fresh- men girls are obligated to serve the lunch following this bonfire. The class also put on the skit, The Meaning of the Bobcat , as entertainment for the royalty. Following the Homecoming football game, the student body attended a dance that was gaily dec- orated by the fi’eshmen along with the sophomores. 18
