The tasks of the Board of Edu- cation have been increasing each year. Among its many functions are securing competent and pro- fessional teachers, providing a school which is comfortable and conducive to learning, and es- tablishing a secure budget appropriate for our needs. One of the main educational issues confronting the Board this year was individualized approach toward instruction. Our Board of Education is to be highly complimented for their fine efforts and earnest devotion. BOARD OF EDUCATION: Alvin Kurle, Vice chairman; Harold Nies, Oscar Metzger, Eugene Hart, Superintendent; Mike Mitzel, Chairman; Alvin Bauer, Wilmer Schaible, Clerk. GOVERNING BODIES IMPROVE SCHOOL SEATED: Marcella Feickert, Secretary; Brad Schlepp, Dennis Stotz, President; Wayne Buechler, Vice President. STANDING: Mr. Young- man, Advisor; Judy Hoven, Margaret Gross, Pat Miller, Susan Carl- son, Treasurer; Richard Mitzel, Wayne Bachman, Nancy Kiesz. The Student Council was a very busy organization this year. One of its first responsibilities was to keep a communicative line between the students and advisors. The Student Council developed and organized plans for Home- coming. Also among its activities was the sponsoring of a Saddie Hawkins dance. At Christmas a container was left in the Study Hall for all students wishing to contribute for the floor lamp purchased for the Bowdle Nursing Home. A new delightful Christmas happening was a film and a pinata break formulated and prepared by the Council members.

ROGERYOUNG- MAN, B.S..M.A. Northern State College Central Michigan University Principal Senior Math Geometry Chemistry Football Coach Student Council Advisor The faculty led the students of Bowdle High School in an eventful and successful school term. All of the faculty put forth efforts to improve their own teaching methods and get more response from their students by having in-service training. They attended Sat- urday sessions that were conducted by edu- cational leaders, where ideas were exchang- ed on different teaching methods and tech- niques. Using Title I money, the faculty also made use of curriculum newsletters that were geared to each teacher's specific teaching area. Of course, their regular classes kept them busy with correcting papers and preparing interesting classes for the next day, but they still took time to chaperon fan buses, sell tickets, and take students to various con- ventions and educational gatherings.
