STAFFS RECORD YEARS EVENTS The newspaper staff of B.H.S. was created this year to present the ” Bobcat Howl to the student body every month. Main features. The Howl is advised by Mr. Glenn Ulland. The Bobcat annual staff changed printers this year. Many long hours have come and gone as the staff worked diligently in order to meet their one deadline. Miss Olga Wagner advised the staff. HONOR SOCIETY HAS ACTIVE YEAR SEATED: Wanda Bauer, Treasurer: Rebecca Kiesz, Secretary; Susan Dewald, President; Diana Hoven, Vice-President. STANDING: Wayne Buechler, Dennis Stotz, Patti Nies, Karen Schmierer, Marcella Feickert, Mr. Hart, Advisor; Susan Carlson. The Dirigo (I lead) Chapter of the National Honor Society of Bowdle High School is com- posed of ten active members of the Jr. and Sr. classes. They have met the qualifications of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. For their service project, several members led tours of the school after the Yellowstone Conference Banquet. The society also contributed to the Marie Brigg's Fund. The Honor Society's initiation ceremony is held in April for the new members. Mr. Hart is the advisor of the Honor Society. GERMAN CLUB IS NEW INNOVATION This year, a German Club was started for the first time in school history. The club is composed of five active mem- bers meeting three times a week after school. The pur- pose of the club is to learn the German language, although it is not a regular class and the members do not earn a credit. In addition to regular German book, the club enjoys a monthly German magazine, Das Rad. The members of the club participate in extra- curricular activities, adding greatly to the school spirit. Mr. Ottenbacher advises and 8 teaches the German Club. Members of the German Club are: Diana Hoven, Vice-President; Luane Eisenbeisz, Secretary; Sheila Metzger, Treasurer; Susan Carlson, Reporter; Hope Eisenbeisz, President; Mr. Ottenbacher, Advisor.

DECLAM CONTEST HELD IN BOWDLE The District VI Declamation Contest was held in Bowdle on October 28, 1967. Participants and ratings were: SEATED: Patti Nies, Excellent; Gloria Peterson, Fair; Diana Hoven, Ex- cellent; Marcella Feickert, Excellent; Mr. Ottenbacher, Advisor. Others who were in local competition were: STANDING: Candice Bieber, Molly Vetch, Tessy Bachman, and Gail Bauer LIBRARY ACQUIRES NEW EQUIPMENT Many long hours were spent in preparation of the library for the student body by the school librarians. SEATED: Luane Eisen- beisz. Head Student Librarian; Mrs. Erbe, School Librarian. STANDING: Patti Nies, Sandy Schlepp, Gary Buechler, Marcella Feickert, Wanda Bauer. The six librarians of B.H.S. attended the South Dakota Stu- dent Librarians Association at Northern State College on Octo- ber 23, 1967. Patti Nies was elected president of the northern district, and therefore, as a nominee for the position of state president. The librarians, with the help of Mrs. Erbe, school librarian, won first prize on the bulletin board entered at the district meeting. New furnishings in the library include new shelves for the nonfiction books, and files for the current magazines. New books and subscriptions to magazines were added to the library.
