Kelley dedicofion Throughout our college life at Bouve-Boston School, we theclass of 1960 have felt the influences of Tufts University in our academic endeavors. Our roads have been widened beyond the actual goals of out profesf sions. Mindful of the change that has brought us into the tide of University life, we gratefully dedicate this year's Escutcheon to Richard Augustus Kelley, Dean of the College of Special Studies-for his sincerity, understanding, and untiting efforts in our behalf. Thay - did you hear? l 31 Y-'f Oiy - the pressure! Like, here comes Miss Brown! A.. The good old days. the log Sept. 14, 1956. . . First day of our four year journey - 69 stars arrived at Bouve to meet Sun Sweet and her Satellites. Posture pictures - last class to shed all for Miss Wills! Moved into our new homes - six big brown creaking houses. Permissions - 7:30's and two 10:00's monthly - smoking in the smokers only. Very lenient, really! Looking at those old houses though, no one can say that they really aren't close to the hearts of all of us, for they were truly homes away from home. Sept. 19, 1956. .. Classes begin - grind, but one thing was certain even at the begin- ning - our P.E.'s were the best dancers Bouve had ever seen! Unbe- known to all, though, this would be the last year P.T.'s would be seen hanging like monkeys on the rope in the gym. Oct. 29,1956 . . . First banquet - our song - loved it dearlyl? Dec. 14, 1956 . . . First Christmas Program - freshman actresses - our loyal speech teacher - remember the clock that suddenly gained time? Jan. 1957 . . . Junior Physical Therapy Pinning Ceremony - What's that? Mar. 23,1957 . . . Parent's Weekend - well, this is the place! May 10, 1957 . . . Finally, Class Day. We stood united once more, although not as pol- ished or all knowing as the other three groups, but ever climbing. May 20,1957 . . . Arrival on a dark rainy day at Camp Yom-O-Nom - ice water. - the itch - yellow fallout - Sralag 11. June 16-Sept. 15, 1957 . . . BLESSED REST. ,az 1 r , 1, -.,, Time is of the essence ' 'Q 'J V - ,f , Mr. Muscles due tomorrow. Sept. 16, 1957 . . . The grind again, but one bright thing at least '- those sparkling P.E.'s are still dancing. Sept. 18, 1957 . . . World shaking news - integration hits the campus - Bouve is cooperating - men, real live men, sitting in our wonderful Sociology class! Jan., 1958 . . . There's that thing called pinning again. Well, sophomore year passed with the same yearly tmditionr, and we were soon looking forward to being upperclassmen. Yes, the fu- ture did look brighter, but one thing we remember about that year - the junior class project - balls . They cer- tainly made a lot of money. Sept. 16,1958 . . . Back again, with the P.E.'s carrying those trusty dancing shoes, and look, Ma, my pretty blueskirt! Marched to RPSH with its musical pipes and smoking in the rooms. Startling discovery - freshman have later permissions. Boy, this younger generation! Oh well, that's life. It goes on and on and on . . . Sept. 17, 1958 . . . Classes again with something new - poor P.E.'s rise early to teach their bright-eyed, bushy-tailed youngsters. Oh, we sing as we work . . . Jan.12, 1959 . . . So this is what pinning is! Jan. 25-Jan. 51, 1959 . . . Ski week - did you get a boo-boo, Miss Brown? Feb. 2, 1959 . . . Polish shoes, iron uniforms, buttons in, pins on and they're off - oh, we sing as we work . . Wonderful, wonderful clinic - can't wait to go, but can't wait to finish. March, 1959 . . . Parent's Weekend - you still like it? April 8, 1959 . . . Panty raid on the prison! ! !! In they came -in through the windows, but out through the doors with the help ofthe housemothers. We need jobs to normal- ize us, it's up to you to analyze us - faculty! -WHILE! .L-l LHS'K tv Sept. 21, 1959 . . . Back again - P.E.'s still dragging .those old worn dancing shoes - P.T.'s still carrying their trusty white polish. Oh well, that's life. It goes on and on and on .... Now, after integration came to the campus, segregation again - Dewick. 1960 . . . Well, ah, um, Baby Ducks , here we are at the top, finally seniors, and it behooves us as such, with all these entities per se behind us, to march continually forward. Yes, the senior doughnut and coffee brigade - a very productive class we are in more ways than one, but now reduced to 45 all looking forward to Senior Week Cby that time - Seniors weakb, Pomp and Circumstancen and Alumni Weekend. But looking back we remember important events such as satellites circling the earth, the new states Alaska and Hawaii, the Russian moon hit, Krushchev's visit, Eisenhowefs tour, and the 1960 Winter Olympics with one of our own classmates competing on the U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Team. We've witnessed a lot of changes, not only world wide but also in Bouve, but the school is still basically the same. We all came hoping to graduate in our chosen fields and now our-dream is nearing reality, but in the long climb, we have learned, we hope, the one basic element in education and that is: - To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge. - Confucius - THE BEGINNING A 34 11,1 Too many cooks spoil the . . . stew! Seven score and seven days ago our fathers Cand mothersj brought forth upon this campus a new class - 1963 -- conceived as a natural following to the class of 1962 and dedicated to graduating and becoming good physical thera- pists and physical educators. Now we are engaged in a great time of reconing, testing whether this class can long endure the signs of the first year. Mr. Lincoln, our apologies. The first half year in the life of the freshman class at BBS has indeed seemed rigorous at times, but still the months have held many rich and happy memories. Fondly we recall orientation weekg get acquainted teasg Stu-G singing Good Night Freshmenng the midnight gab fests with the upperclassmeng the panel discussion on the honor systemg -- all the things that were done to 'make our introduction to college life a warm and helpful one. But on October 6th, Initiation Day, our Big Sisters, who 45 w N-DU, QW wind JL had seemed so friendly and understanding during orientation, changed chamelion - like into whistle-blowing maniacs who caused all of us to descend upon the nearest male - whether he be Tuftsman, telephone repairman, or aged professor out for his morning constitutional - and fling their arms about his Csometimesj manly frame, and cry, je t' aime . This met with varied responses from the male population ranging from whole- hearted affection to outright fear. All too soon, however, it was six-thirty, and the heels and home-made hats had to be set aside for the more serious business of preparing for tomorrow's classes. Classes had just recently be- gun and though it had at first seemed that there were just not enough hours in the day, we were soon settled, we were even beginning to become accustomed to that ache-all-oyer feeling that came the day after modern dance. But our calm was not last- ing. Blue-White initiation loomed beyond the horizon. Foreground, Left to Right: S. Allen, J. Schultz, M. McTigue, J. Quigly, J. Gagnon, E. Perry, M. Brown, P. Absent Concerning that auspicious occasion we dare only mention our surprise and thrill lest some curious member of the Class of '64 read this history during orientation week next year. Let it suffice to say that our feelings were com- parable that night to those we experienced after the school banquet, which was held a short time later. Never will any of us forget the impact of thebsongs and speeches that r1ight, some humor- ous, all touching. Thanksgiving came and went, and no sooner had Home for the Holidays ceased to echo through RPS Hall, that we were back again and counting the weeks until Christmas recess. If Orientation Week was hectic, the week before vacation was feverish. Between studying for the cluster of exams, and finishing our research pa- pers, there was hardly time to breathe. The Freshman pajama party broke up the crammed full hours of studying before exams. We really let ourselves go in weird relay races and modeling contests. Finals came. We saw. We felt conquered. By '63 it will be just routine. Now we're a year old, and like every baby of the family, we can't wait to grow up. We are eagerly looking forward to Monomoy, where we can at last be called sophomores. l 1 n I I Mrs. Walter McEvoy . .. ., , 1 Az' . :A . . . . .
