Student Government Living in an age when democracy is the dominating thought and main considera- tion, it is essential that today's youth gain experience in the practical application and understanding of the basic principles of the democratic philosophy. In school, as in a democracy, the student council members are elected by the student body and are representative of all the groups in school. The school year started when the coun- cil welcomed the Freshman class and es- tablished them as a part of Bouve. When their class president joined the council, it was complete. The issues and the problems which confront the students are discussed and settled by the governing body. Under the guidance of Miss Bouve, the student government strives to maintain the smooth level of the school and to stimulate and keep alive and vital the standards. A spirit of cooperation and companion- ship is present in all that is done. The council sponsored such social events throughout the year as the picnic at Co- hasset, the annual banquet of the school, and the student government dinner. It is the duty of the council to see that the rules of the school are obeyed and upheld and that new established policies are respected. The student government learns to face matters broadmindedly and judge impartiallyg the basis upon which democracy rests. Backed by a strong Student Body to- gether with the help of a willing faculty, 1942 has been a friendly and successful year for the student government associa- tion. .S'ram!ir1g.' P.
