Of course, the seniors were expected to win . . . . but the juniors were a considerable threat, especially since they had their own cheerleaders and coaches to encourage them. The senior defense let up, and the juniors managed to score the first touchdown . . but the mighty seniors never gave up knowing that it was just a matter of time until they too would score and win the contest. The responsibilities often conflict and lead to very trying moments and decisions. Mr. Bob Gray has seen those times. Yet, he enjoys and realizes the advantage of getting to know his students as people. Mr. Gray ' s genuine concern for his students is obvious in and out of the classroom. If someone has a problem, whether academic or personal, he is there to listen and, if possible, to help. This yearbook is dedicated with much love, respect and appreciation to Mr. Robert Gray for his unending support, encouragement and friendship. Thanks Mr. Gray . . . For being you!!! Mr. William A. Cook will be missed by the students as he assumes the position of Assistant Superintendent of the Bourne School System. Replacing him will be an already familiar face to most students, Mr. Frederick J. Dunbury. The Class of 1979 would like to express their gratitude to Mr. Cook for his sincere help and devotion to the students and also welcome Mr. Dunbury to the halls of Bourne High School. Good luck and best wishes to both men in their new positions! TOP TO START OVER AGAIN ADMINISTRATION Principal: William A. Cook Athletic Director: Phillip A. Norton Elizabeth A. Spirit Week, sponsored by the cheerleaders prior to the game, helped to build the enthusiasm for the upcoming events. Each class contributed streamers, banners and posters that completely decorated the school. The classes ' spirit was fur- ther demonstrated during half-time when cars and trucks, decorated and overflowing with students circled the field as the court and their escorts were announced. 108 The victory celebration began at 8 P.M. that evening in the high school cafetorium. Music by Darker Side kept everyone dancing while anticipating the court presentation. The court was announced and Pam Wetherell became our Homecoming Queen. Bourne fans were provided with the most exciting, action-filled season in years. Bourne also boasted 6 All-Cape players this year; D. May, N. Bevilacqua, K. Diefen- bach, R. May, C. Horman and D. McClung. Recognized this year for outstanding play in SMC III were D. May, N. Bevilacqua, D. McClung, C. Horman and |. Lawrence. The team will be rebuilding next year with the loss of seniors, McKenna, McCarthy, Leach, Lamken, Hayes, Ariagno, Nelson, Hathaway, Ellis, and Denmark. The Eastern Massachusetts Girls ' Basketball League for the first time in 5 years was not completely domi- nated by Bourne. Though not a losing season, the Canalwomen expect to continue to improve under the expertise of coaches Nancy Lindberg and Bruce Cendron. Their devotion and true spirit for the game make Girls ' Basketball at Bourne High something very special. Good luck next year! A couple of businesses are offering a percent off or something free with a purchase at their establishment. The details can be found in the ads themselves. To take advantage of these offers, bring your yearbook with you when making the purchase and have the ad signed. Once the ad has been signed, it cannot be used again. The following pages of advertising were bought by local businessmen and friends to support our yearbook. These businesses have given us the financial assistance we needed to help cover the many costs involved in a yearbook ' s production. With their help, the cost of the yearbook is able to be lowered for the students. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the people who have supported us, especially with money as tight as it is today. And remember — our advertisers support us, it is only fair that we support them! CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 79!!
