Superintendent Mr. Burns - Vice Principal To the Class of 1976: You were incoming freshmen the year I became principal and therefore hold a special place in my heart as you represent the first class 1 have seen through a complete four-year cycle at Bourne High School. In that time we have had quite a few experiences together both individually and as a group. I cherish many great memories of this class and the achievements of the young men and women in it. I know that generally many of you feel that I have not allowed you the freedom of action that is worthy of your maturity. To that 1 would answer that I believe that high school experience is the last opportunity to pro- vide the young people of America with direction and guidance in proper social and moral behav- ior. If we can not uphold the principles of good conduct and respect for the rights of the majority in high school, we can- not expect that this will be upheld in later life. I only hope that we have succeeded in helping you develop a philosophy of life that includes honesty and concern for others in all your dealings. May I extend to each graduating senior my sincere wish that your life will bring you happiness and fulfill- ment. William A . Cook Principal Life is not a race. Eight rainy games out of ten did not dampen the pep and enthusiasm of the twelve girl squad who gave their all to support an equally wet football team. Under the supervision of Mrs. Mona Iwaszko the girls practiced during the whole summer and right through the football season. The girls ' spirit was evident from the beginning of the season in Septem- ber until it ended Thanksgiving Day. TOP: Captain - Lori Belliveau with advisor Mrs. Mona Iwaszko. The first activity on their busy agenda was twirling at the football games. With Patty Mosher and Linda Raymond as the co-captains, the squad performed at pre-game and during half-time to the specta- torsâ enjoyment. After the last cold football game came the freezing Christmas parades at Hyannis, Falmouth, and Bourne. People lined the streets in 32 weather in order to see the different sizes, shapes, and colors that floated or marched by and to be filled with the X-Mas spirit. Later in the spring the majorettes marched in the Memorial Day Parade and the new Bicen- tennial Parade. With the parades over, the highly com- petitive tournaments began. Long and hard hours of practice after school and week nights were given up by the two co- captains and Paula Fraher, Elaine Jen- kins, Lorrie Leonard, Laura Ziemba, Lynn Hadad, Kathy Robin, Roseanne Bevilacqua , Robin Maguire , and Heidi Dobbins in order to bring trophies back to Bourne. During the middle of all the tense and nerve-wracking tournaments was the exchange concert. The squad entertained at the home concert but elected not to participate in the away exchange . This majorette squad worked hard throughout the year to keep up with their busy schedule and they certainly deserve congratulations and thanks for a job well done! Some hope for dates, pretty girls win, gowns are bought, and suddenly it ' s November 8. Crepe paper and pumpkins fill the cafete- ria, we file in, the band begins and then - We ' re Dancing In The Moon- light. We dance and laugh and whisper excitedly or sit bored and staring. And then the moment comes , we sit hushed and listen - applause - we have a queen, upon her head a crown of fall. Orion plays The Best Of My Love and she and her escort dance very slowly. It ' s a beautiful moonlit night . 91 92 TOP: Fly By Night. CENTER: Our Queen; Diane and her escort. On the afternoon of Tues . , Nov . 18 the sen- ior girls donned football shirts and tramped to the stadium for the contest of the season, the Powderpuff Football Game. The first competi- tion, Freshmen vs. Sophomores, in which the Sophomores won, was rugged if a little chaotic but was nothing compared to the following game, Juniors vs. Seniors. Although the Juniors attempted to foil the Seniors with the use of foul play, the referees prevailed, and the Sen- iors, in a dazzling victory, crushed the Juniors by a score of 32-0. Caliri was laid to rest before a small, sober gath- ering in Lakeville, Mass. It was a quiet ending for a young man of only 25 years who had given so much of his time and effort so that those who knew him might benefit. To us at Bourne High School, with whom he spent his final year, he was many different things to many different people. To some of us he was a monitor; cheerful and effi- cient at going about his appointed duties. To oth- ers he was a coach, with- out a doubt the best coach any of us could have asked for or hoped to receive. To all of us he was a friend: someone to talk to, ask for help, or bring our problems to. He truly loved his work and all of those whom he worked with. He had pride in our school and students; indeed, his sin- cerity and devotion made us who were around him have confidence in our- selves and in our school. We shall all miss Mr. Caliri very much in the years to come, in ways that only we in our hearts can know. Yet, no matter how much we praise his virtues and talents no statement could ever sum up Mr. Caliri ' s life better than the words given to us by the priest who performed his funeral mass when he tried to answer the omnipre- sent question of why such a wonderful man must leave us all so young. Patti Ochab 1 1 Donât Drink the Water â A Comedy by Woody Allen He was new, we were nervous and all of us were filled with a child-like enthusiasm. Who could know that after three and a half months of frustrating rehearsals, and a lousy formal dress rehearsal, that we the Senior Class of 1976, the cast members of Woody Allenâs Don ' t Drink the Water would be reveling in a sea of applause on the nights of April 9th and 10th. We were fed, stuffed to be exact, we had been hungry for our peerâs approval, our parent ' s pride and most of all the audience ' s appreciation. We were satisfied beyond belief, many of us even had dreams of Broadway careers. To know that you performed well is a joy that must be experienced in order to be understood. The Director had cast well, and characters seemed to be a natural for the actors. Father Drobney, portrayed by Jack Sweeney, was the first on the stage and set the pace for the remain- ing actors: Walter Hollander; Brian Delancey, Marion Hollander; Patti Cohoon, Susan Hollander; Siobhan Roarke, Ambassador Magee; Paul Robicheau, Axel Magee; Jamie Dal- ton, The Sultan; Padraic McCahill , Sultan ' s First Wife; Joan Burns , Chef ; Donald Gerry, Ms. Kilroy; Hillary Nelson, Ms. Burns; Nancy Fountain, Krojack; John Micliaccio, Kas- nar; Steve Winter- meyer, Duchess of Luxembourg; Carol Koronkiewicz , Countess Bourdoni; Pat Vincent. To say the expe- rience was memo- rable would be a f gross understatement. Not only will it remain in our minds for years to come, but it taught everyone who participated a little something. Each and everyone of us came away with a feeling of accomplishment and for it we have to thank, our Director, Mr. W. T. Gibbons and Mr. Woody Allen. Thank-you. Class Day â Friday, June 4, 1976 CLASS MARSHALS: Lynn Clolkowski, Deborah Gerry. The Welcome, Senior of the Year Award, Class Ode, Class History, Class Will, Stage Band Selections, Class Prophecy, Athlete of the Year Award, Awards, and Yearbook Dedication composed Class Day for the graduating Class of ' 76. A packed gymnasium of well- wishers attended the two-hour program which began and ended with the graduates marching to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance. Some laughed, some cried, some were silent, but all will remember this special day preceding our Graduation. Graduation â76 Class Ode WE ARE READY Birds push their young out of the nest; Inside them is fear, and challenge without . Their new-found wings they ' ve yet to test - And dreams to find and dreams to doubt. Nothing starts with the first flutter of wings - Just a mild disturbance in the running of things. No more protection or being spoon-fed; Thus, this is where all that training has led. Just about ready to fly on your own, To finally leave home and go out by yourself ; To make it or not with no safety dome? To try all the things youâve stored on the shelf, To spread your wings and jump into life; To search for new knowledge, a husband or wife? Fly into life, before you ' re sure of it; Cry, smile, or laugh, you ' re ALIVE now; DON ' T QUIT! - Donna M. The Director had cast well, and characters seemed to be a natural for the actors. Father Drobney, portrayed by Jack Sweeney, was the first on the stage and set the pace for the remain- ing actors: Walter Hollander; Brian Delancey, Marion Hollander; Patti Cohoon, Susan Hollander; Siobhan Roarke, Ambassador Magee; Paul Robicheau, Axel Magee; Jamie Dal- ton, The Sultan; Padraic McCahill, Sultan ' s First Wife; Joan Burns , Chef ; Donald Gerry, Ms. Kilroy; Hillary Nelson, Ms. Burns; Nancy Fountain, Krojack; John Micliaccio , Kas- nar; Steve Winter- meyer, Duchess of Luxembourg; Carol Koronkiewicz, Countess Bourdoni; Pat Vincent. To say the expe- rience was memo- rable would be a Donât Drink the Water â A Comedy by Woody Allen gross understatement. Not only will it remain in our minds for years to come, but it taught everyone who participated a little something. Each and everyone of us came away with a feeling of accomplishment and for it we have to thank, our Director, Mr. W. T. Gibbons and Mr. Woody Allen. Thank-you. Class Day â Friday, June 4, 1976 CLASS MARSHALS: Lynn Clolkowski, Deborah Ge rry. I 16 r ' jFgS â r y  i 1 W â m . Their new-found wings they ' ve yet to test - And dreams to find and dreams to doubt. Nothing starts with the first flutter of wings - Just a mild disturbance in the running of things. No more protection or being spoon-fed; Thus, this is where all that training has led .
