As the sands of time have quickly sifted through the past thirtyftive years. Mr. Nicholls has been a faithful and a loyal servant to his school and his community, Few tasks were too great for him. None were too small to pass him hy without some recognition and consideration. Benjamin Merrill. Mr. Merrill's interest in the Student Council has greatly enriched our school life. Many of our sucf cessful Student Council activities have been sponf sored by him. A teacher of Industrial Arts, Mr. Merrill strives continuously to give Industrial Arts its rightful place in our school curriculum. Through his earnest teaching and sympathetic understanding a Bound Brook High School student won national recognif tion in an Industrial Arts Contest. We had a gay time at the lamboree Twas a colorful lively affair' The Elks was the scene for a midwinter dream For our junior Prom was held there. In '54 we came back again, Reaching for our crown. This was the lastg the others had passed, It was our turn now to step down. We did our best in the Senior Play, Which proved to be worth the time: The Senior Ball was the best of all, Our year became sublime. Cur four years have been spent in haste, But our Hrst aim in life has been found: So we bid farewell to a school so swell As we leave in our cap and gown. Coach Barile's forces topped Bernardsville in the Crusaders' hest Page Sixtveexqbt Basketball By defeating North Hunterdon Regional and Bernardsf ville, the Crusader basketball team closed out its campaign with a disappointing two win and seventeen loss record. Lack of height and experience handicapped Coaches Joe Barile and Ray Kovonuk, in spite of long hours of gruelf ing work, Mario Maggio, Charles Culley. Fred Adams, jim Stone. Pat Norris, and Horace Turner are the graduating seniors. lvlaggio was one of the five leading scorers! in the county with 236 points. In his career, the set shot artist compiled 333 points. ln Somerset County, Bound Brook ended in the cellar along with Bernardsville, Each team won one and lost five. With the return of regulars jim Rafferty, Sherman Johnson, Albert Weddermzin. Tony Barber, Dave Colom baroni, and Emmett Capanna, the Crusader eager record should show a vast improvement. North Plainfield, Thomas Jefferson, Plainneld, Rahway, and Trenton Catholic were defeated hy the Crusaders. Losses were sustained to Union, Springfield Regional, and Somerville. in dual meet competition. Don Ridley was undefeated in dual meets during his senior campaign. Don won his last 15 houts and 23 of 24 in his high school career. The plucky llifpounder won over his District II opponents in tournament competition. Fred Sopko and jack Tvvyman also won District II championships, while the team came in second place. Boh Longardo was runnerfup in the tournament. While Sam Zucearelli did not place in the tournament, his Eve wins in seven matches went a long way in helping the Cru' sader season. jerry Ridley was the only other senior on the squad. In the New jersey State tournament, Ridley won the 122 pound title. After defeating his preliminary oppof nent, Don took a 372 referees decision over Dick Fred' rickson of Plainfield. In Somerset County competition, the Brooks tied Somerville for second place. Highlights of the campaign included two no-hit per- formances. Plainfield High School was the victim of the first, when Gary Poulson and joe De Mato combined, because Poulson pulled an arm muscle in the fourth in- ning. The other was pitched completely by Poulson against Highland Park High.
