IJERWOOD BAKER, our new superintendent, we extend our heartiest welcome. He has al- ready won a spot in the heart of every student, and we all look for- ward to many years of fine co-opera- tion and accomplishment. Pk wk Sk 2? :lf vlf Members of the Class of 1941, let no man go unchallenged who says that America is no longer a land of opportunity. In no other country on the face of the globe is education at public expense guaranteed to all youth of your age. You are a priv- ileged group, for the State of Colo- rado, and the City of Boulder has invested heavily in your future, and, through you, in the future of this country. What return do you pro- pose to make this investmentg how will you justify the confidence of the community in your ability and worth '? The years will answer. G. Derwood Baker 6? HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK is a book of memories. In this volume the students in charge have given a summary of the best days of the most widely known high school in the Rocky Mountain region. Many of the students attending school in this beautiful new building are too busy with the work and play of today to give a thought to the backward look that will come within a few years. When the time for retrospection comes, this volume will serve the pur- pose for which it it was intended. Friends and scenes no longer pres- ent and familiar will be brought back in picture and print. Halls of mem- ory will resound to the joys of the good old days. Voices and faces of schoolmates and teachers will come rushing back to renew the youth of people whose youthful days are long since past. William G. Gambill IAN' IIAVIC reached one objective in your education. 'I'here are many others, and you are asking Where shall I go from here? And it is im- portant that you plan your career. Know what you would like to do in life, give ample preparation and thought to your work, remembering that it will require sacrifice, re- planning, a great deal ot' thoughtful study: but so long as you have your objective before you, you cannot at'- t'ord to grow despondent or discour- aged. The road to education goes on and on. llut always there are won- derful discoveries: many. many inter- esting things to see and understand: many skills to acquire: many bridges to be built: but success will be worth the effort. During this struggle, your morale is a most important possession. You must have selt'-confidence. and be- lieve in yourself. You can, il' you will. Where do we go from here? Far, I hope, boys and girls. How far will depend largely upon our own efforts. William Y. Casey GAIN a splendid Odaroloc records much of our Boulder High School year. It has been a year full of changes for all of us. We take pleas- ure in remembering what we have done that is worth while, while we regret opportunities that we have be- littled or passed by so stupidly. The year has brought us all many happy hours as well as some keen disap- pointments. Nany have won well- deserved acclaim from classmates as this volume shows on page after page. There are also those who have quiet- ly learned to carry responsibility, those who have quietly shown they are to be counted on to promote the welfare of their school, those who have discovered something fine and interesting in everyone of their as- sociates, teachers and pupils--these, too, have made a record even though their names are inconspicuous and are recognized by but few. To all of you congratulations for the joy of memories this Odaroloc will hold for you! M. GULSS -uf The senior class of 'll faces with pride the end of a suc- cessful year-a year never to be forgotten because of the many unusual activities made possible by the zeal and initia- tive of our senior class members. For the first time in the history of lioulder High, the seniors will wear caps and gowns at graduation. l'nder the leadership of the senior class, the llidden Talent Show, the lZooster's Yodvil, and the formation of a new senior girl's pep club were successfully executed. Our new school banner was designed by a senior boy, and a num- ber of seniors excelled in sports and scholastic activities. As a conclusion to the year's achievements we are proud to pre- sent a colorful and interesting Odaroloc. This year's activities were under the direction of our president and llead Girl, -lane Vurtze, the class secretary, Paul l,aTorra, and two sympathetic and understanding sponsors, Miss Marian Park and Mr. Arthur Lawrence. Because of the thoughtfulness, the good humor, and the personal charm of our teachers, we will carry with us many happy memories. l'pon observing the undergraduates, we are convinced they will not only profit by our mistakes, but because of their intelligence and ability will be able to ac- complish many things that we may have left unfinished. As to the seniors. wherever we may go or whatever we may attempt. may we bring honor to the name of Boulder High. The representatives succeeded in acquir- ing five more flags than necessary and estab- lished a record unequaled in the past four years. However, the Juniors were not to be outdone and walked away with honors at the yearly Rough House to set the battle for school supremacy at an even keel. The Tigers shone brightly in the boxing matches which were held as part of the Rough House event for the first time in its history. Apart from these annual inter-class classics, many Sophomores stole stellar berths in operetta. dramatics and hidden talent show, one Toot win- ning the cup for best hidden talent Advisors to Fred Twiggs, Sophomore king, are Max Don and John Paddock. Members of the faculty who acted as sponsors were Miss Orah Torrence and Mr. Joe Enright. 40 OIUAOWZOVE Q55 'JE' Andre-w, liallllvvn Ardourvl, lilwyn .-Xspinwall, llill lialwr, llolr llergnian, lfllizalmetli , 1 r',.r l'alve1't, Ava .ri ., Varpenter, Smit Vlark, Maurine Vlenient, -lack Vramer, Patricia Crook, Hose Dunn, Helen Ecktornzlc-lit. Our purpose is to find and give the best while our Code reminds us of ideals worthy of t1'ue Girl Reserve members. Our membership may include every girl in our Senior High School and we a1'e divided into eight Committee Groups with teacher sponsors in order to offer more opportunities to individual members in small woi'king units. Once a month we have a general meeting. Last spring we sponsored a Spring Formal, a tea honoring the Faculty, a party for the Ninth Grade Girls, and a Mother-Daughter Din- ner. At this last affair the new president and her Cabinet were pre- sented following an established custom. Last fall we followed our first meeting with a social hour for all the new girls in High School. We have had several interesting club programs with the Recognition of New Members. a ceremonial, in October. Members of G. R. acted as guides in the building the first days of school, sponsored the collection of splendid donations from students for Thanks- giving Baskets, sold seals at places assigned us by the Tuberculosis As- sociation just before Christmas, were ushers and room assistants at the Carol Concerts, posed for several of the tableaux in the Carol Concert with some of the Hi-Y members and some townspeople. We have been most happy to serve in these and other activities, some of them social affairs, such as the Sadie Hawkins dance sponsored by G. R. Monthly Cabinet meetings have occurred at delightful suppers at the homes of members or at enioyable covered dish suppers arranged in the Social Room. More than a hundred and fifty of our members assisted in planning and caring for the hundred and seventy delegates and leaders for whom we were hostesses at a Midwinter conference for this District on February 1. This game did much to shatter the hopes for a successful season. BOULDER 7 - FORT COLLINS 7 After the previous week's dismal performance the Purple and Gold showed an amazing return to form by holding the strong Fort Collins Lambkins to a 7-7 tie. As the gun sounded ending the half, Platt threw a tremendous 40-yard pass to Brafford in the end zone for the score. Fort Collins came back strong to tie the score in the third quarter. BOVLDER 27 - GRHI'1LEY 7 Winning its first conference game in three starts, Boulder had a field-day against the Greeley eleven. Coach Gelwick used three separate teams, all of whom contributed to the rout of the Wildcats. BOULDER 12 - LOVELAND 6 Continuing to show improvement with their new-found offense, the Panthers whipped last year's State Champions in what some people say was Boulder's best game of the season. BOULDER 0 - LONGMONT 123 In the annual Armistice Day game with their bitter rival, the Long- mont Trojans, the Panthers went down fighting on the short end of a 13-O count. Playing in the worst weather imaginable, the lighter Boulder team had trouble getting started in the ankle-deep mud. After this game the Trojans went on to tie for the State Championship.
