In summer it looks lonely . . . waiting for us to make it come alive again . . . the corridors are silent and still . . . rooms are empty and scrubbed . . . we walk by and get a funny feeling . . . In autumn the people come . . . we are the people of Boulder City High School . . . we're lonesome, too, for friends, activity, the challenge of learning . . . we settle down to work . . . football, candied apples, rivalry for merit points, struggling to make first term honor roll . . . apprais- ing classes and teachers . . . discussing summer fun . . . senioritis setting in . . . taking college board exams . . We are the People . . Some events we'll remember forever. In winter . . . the hum of activity in organizations over- whelms us . . . we decide we've ioined too many . . . get- ting in the mood for basketball . . . lamenting our grades on college board exams . . . applying for entrance to half a dozen colleges . . . wondering if we'll make it . . . And suddenly it's spring! Looking forward to graduation . . . reminiscing over four years of hard work, fun . . . spring dances, dinners, parties, and assemblies . . . missing the honor roll by a fraction . . . And then it's all over . . . and we realize how much Our Town and Our School has meant to us . . . , f,w,f-msfxrs, -- , 1533343 ' S 1 V ,. 'ww Q iv H- 4+-R J . I. I . fx n -. Just as there are good and mediocre and bad doctors, lawyers, nurses, engineers, truck drivers, plumbers, carpenters, pilots and farmers, there are good, mediocre, and bad teachers. We think we are 'fortunate at BCHS in having only the good kind. Certainly our representative teachers, Mr. James Nelson and Mrs. Martha King are better than good, They're tlte Best sentative parents. Yes, Mr. Nelson, we agree that you know all the angles . . . When we were sophomores we fthe girlst all had a crush on you . . , you took us through algebra, geometry, and college math . , . you coached us in basket- ball . . . assisted as track coach . . . and helped Mrs. M. with our F.T.A. group . . . You were our idea of a real teacher . . ,ails We'll remember Mrs. Honeycutt for her patience and devotion to the business of getting us ready for graduation . . . Fresh- man year was not too early to start thinking about it . . . She taught us general math and orientation and counseled us often . . . sponsored seniors . . . ,-V Now, students, shall we discuss our prob- lems? This greeting from Mr. Gibson was not meant to bring forth in our minds . . . our personal problems . . . dating . . . home- work . . . social behavior . . . parent . . . child . . . relationships . . . but it did . . . he could always get us back to the business at hand . . . whether it was physics . . . or trigonometry . . , especially this year our classes were interesting because he had been away for a stiff refresher course in advanced science , . . he was our boys' counselor and advisor to Honor Society . . . science We often wondered in that first year . . . Mr. Rowley's, that is . . . how the county could keep up with the expense of broken yardsticks . . . not that he beat us with them . . . he iust became enthusiastic in his science lectures . . . and wham! there would go another yardstick . . . he taught us biology and chemistry . . . coached J.V. foot- ball and was assistant baseball coach . . . FINE ART A note ot discord . . . even the slightest deviation from the true note . . . brought a pained expression to Mrs. Garrett's other- wise pleasant countenance . . . she was a master artist at showmanship . . . we'll never forget our terrific glee club and band . . . madrigals . . . performances . . . neither will the public . . . she also taught speech . . . she had a reputation for being one of the finest musicians in the Southwest . . . because of her excellent performance with students . . . Mr. Sherman was really in the limelight . . . in 1958 . . . the only new teacher to BCHS . . . he taught us art and English . . . at the slightest provocation he would entertain us with his war experiences . . , his life as a commercial artist . . . and as a profes- sional baseball player . . , He could tell you what was the matter with your car at a distance that most of us couldn't even hear the motor . . . didn't only diagnose the trouble, but also helped us correct it . . . his driver training course was one of our favorites . . . Q t at sl igSPEClALIZED l cLAssEs Mr. Miller will be remembered for many things, but most prominently for his eagle eye in mechanical drawing , . . not the slightest flaw escaped his eye . . . he proved himself not only to be a jack of all trades, but also master of many . . . ? i 5 Xi EDUCATION y This was more like it . . . we struggled through a semester in Health . . . waiting to get into activities . . . Modern Dance was not her favorite subject, but she did a good iob with everything . . . archery , . . basketball , . .tennis . . .volleyball . . . tumbling . . . calisthenics . . . sometimes we wondered how she did it all . . . sponsored G.A.A .... Junior Class . . , and Cheerleaders . . . Miss Clanin's patience and sense of humor were invaluable . . . Who can forget Nlr. Andree? No matter what the activity was in Physical Education, he could bring the discussion around foot- ball . . . this was his first year as head football coach at B.C.H.S. and also as athletic director . . . that was where his heart was and we found it interesting . , . our toot- ball season was a great success . . . thanks to him . . , -nd Yes, we learned beginning French . , . in various ways . . . sometimes in song , . . literature . . . drill . . . and conversation . . . when Sharon brought her accordion to class, classes within earshot had to stop and listen . . . l LANGUAGE , 5 X .X Senor Whelan was a mighty good Spanish teacher, but he never passed up an opportunity to talk about baseball, be it the Pittsburgh Pirates or the BCHS team which he coached . . . he sponsored the language club which was made up of Spanish and French students , . . R7 ENGLISH She was nothing short of a demon in the classroom . . . with homework . . . oral grammar tests . . . outside reading . . . weekly themes . . . research papers . , . literature appreciation . . , and even sound-off . . . but we knew if we paid attention we wouldn't be in bone-head English in our freshman year in college . . . Mrs. Mitchell had fun with us doing the Conga and cha-cha-cha , . , she did a terrific iob with our annual every year . . . and shared sponsorship of F.T.A. with Mr. Nelson . . . Mr. Norman was a fanatic on English grammar, but our background helped us when we took senior Eng- lish . . . he didn't ever hurt any of us . . . now we wonder why . . . he should have , , . he had us in our green days . . . when it was more important, we thought . . . to be clever than to be intelligent . . . he sponsored us when we were in the 8th grade . . Mrs. Segerblom taught us English and wsrld history, sponsored us in our senior year . . , checked books to us in the library . . . and told us about the healtha producing seaweed . . , demonstrated correct posture . . . and advised us to get a slant board like hers . . . we liked it all because she had enthusiasm for her iolo . . . we liked the human interest stories she brought to class . . . her love for boating and water sports made her the envy of many of us . . . n the inte- really didn't often . he track x SGIEQ si,g Mr. McManus . . . we tried to give him a bad time in iunior high . . . but he caught on to us early . . . in world history . . . it was learn, learn, learn . . . not always world history, though . . . sometimes . . . the best in current theater production . . . movie land or grand opera . . . he was president of the county teachers' group and occasionally we got in on a few of his professional problems . . . Those surprise quizzes Mr. Foreman faced us with almost every day threw us for a loop often, but we made it through math in iunior high . . . and checked in again as iuniors for American History . . . we'll remember him for his good coaching as assistant football coach, and JV basketball, and as sponsor of sophomore class . . . VOCA TIONAL Come on, now, boys, today's Fri- day . , . let's clean up!! Mr. Gid- dens was a stickler for a clean, tidy shop , . . he insisted on safety meas- ures . . . he taught us auto mechanics . . . and industrial arts . . . sponsored the iunior class . . . the hours he spent in helping make our proms a success . . . made him our favorite sponsor . . A neat hem-line was not the most important thing in the world to Mrs. Harvey, but it was one of the most important . . . any time we wanted to stall for time . . . a slight sug- gestion brought forth stories of her experiences in rearing her family . . . which were timely in family relations class which she taught . . , her clay was a full one with iunior homemak- ing, plus senior high homernaking, family relations and sponsor of iunior high and senior high F.H.A .... Mrs. McAdams had the patience ot Job. How she stood the click-clack of thirty typewriters for two or three or four hours a day, we never knew . . . she didn't like students ierking paper out of the machine . . . but Pepper forgot. So did many other beginning typists . . . she also taught sophomore English and office machines . . . and advised the Pebbles staff . . we liked her classes . . . ...,., COMMERCIAL 'i science Q!! Bob, if you insist on chewing gum, l'Il have to have enough to take home to each of my grandchildren . . . Mrs. King had little patience with the gum-chewer, but her patience was endless with us when we were slow in getting a correct answer in bookkeeping . . , she l . had a way of looking at you over her glasses that made you know she meant business . . . she taught us so much more than bookkeeping and shorthand . , . and banking . . . real lessons in living . . . we could. always depend that she would be fair . . . we often wondered where she managed to get enough hours in the day and enough energy to do the exacting iob of handling school funds with the help of student book- keepers . . .
