It be- gan the year by going to Hoopes- ton, Illinois, to march in the National Sweetcorn Festival par- ade. This began the year by being seen by several thousand people. The band performed on the floor for six home games, including the All-Star Basket- ball game. It was received very well at each show. Also, on the schedule was the annual Christmas program on Dec. 22, 1958. Here the chorus along with the band again presented a fine portion of the program. Entries in the Solo and Ensem- ble Contest this year included some from both the instrumental and vocal departments. Entered from the vocal was the Freshmen Trio which received excellent rating. Included in the trio were Marcia Morgan, Violet Buchanan, and Marilyn Burton. Entered as a saxophone solo was Janet Liptrap who also received an excellent rating. Janetalso entered the piano contest and received a superior rating. On March 12, the band parti- cipated in the County Band fes- tival at Boswell. As the climax to a very busy year, the band, with the high school chorus pre- sented the Spring Concert on April 28. Seated: Barbara Brost, Pam Cox, Mary Brest, Linda Rhodes, Louise Rhodes. The exercises that Mrs. Tingley, physical education instructor, counts out for -the girls added to the soreness of these muscles. The other sports played during the year were: volleyball, kick ball, relays, and folk dancing. This is one class that all of the girls like and it gives them a chance to show their athletic ability.
