A B - sl .. uni, .. .. ... , - . .. . .,. ,YKQ AV fi NW Boston University Band .Xt present, Boston University has a band of which the entire student body may well be proud, and to which they can lend their support with whole hearted pride. The B. U. Band has ceased to be a temporary creation for football games. It is now a recognized and distinctive unit in Boston University Activities. During the fall of 1928 one notable event stood out in the Band's history. This was the purchase of sixty smart colorful uniforms which first made their appearance at the opening of Nickerson Field. It gave the spectators a thrill of surprise and pride to see B. U.'s Band go marching down the new field in their white trousers with white leggins, red coats with red capes lined with white, and red beret caps. Since that first memorable appearance, the uniforms have been worn many times and everywhere they have brought forth praiseworthy comment and approbation. Another important addition was made in the form of a bugle and drum corps. This made its first appearance at the time of the new uniforms and has proven itself in many ways during the year. The Boston University Band is an All-University activity. Although the nucleus is usually made up of men from the R. O. T. C. Band, there are always many positions open to men not in the unit. It is the desire of Nfajor VVilbur that the personnel of the band be kept as near sixty as possible. Next fall, men should remem- ber that there are many good times awaiting a member of the band. The B. U. Band is not a seasonal organization. It is a year-round activity. and although many of its functions occur during the football season, there are many other important events during the year which the band attends. After the football games and the week-end trips come the hockey games. Still later in the spring come the Commencement Exercises. In addition to affairs of this sort there are, every year. special occasions which arise. and at which the B. U. Band functions. During the past year two occasions have arisen. Une was the torchlight parade in the Re- publican political campaign. and the other, the parade of escort to a group of Australian students who were touring the United States. It is the opportunity to participate in all these things that makes the work and practice, necessary for mem- bership, worthwhile. C.-xiii, B.
