Camp You're in the army now was the tune we rookies bawled as we detrained at camp, cast off our civilians and put on the khaki of the army for our short six-weeks training period. A fellow might look well enough in the uniform issued to him, but until he had a chance to become accustomed to the outfit,-7-or better rnisfitfflie felt pretty much out of place. YVe soon became familiar with the daily routine of camp-feven the 5 A.lNI. part---and began to look forward to the varied program which had been arranged for us. The days were spent in drill, tactical walks, range preparation, and other tasks of a military nature. That ten-mile hike with the overnight camp, was an event not soon to be forgotten. A hot day, heavy shoes on hard roads, full packs, rifles, and a near cloud-burstbefore we had had barely time to pitch our puptents,-VVhat a life! But a good swim, and pleasant evening around a glowing camp-fire, more than made up for our long tactical walk . Among our souvenirs will also linger the night maneuvres, dawn attack, a week at the range, and a night patrol. Ah! that night patrol 2 hlany a fellow came slinking into his barracks around 1:00 ALI. after slush- ing through swamp a11d Woods, looking for the de-n range road , or waiting for Captain Carter to sing out from somewhere, Is that a p'trol up thar? Some boys were so clever at this patrol stunt, that they even managed to elude Captain Hay- cock, who was searching for them, and could not be persuaded to come in until Major VVilbur quietly crept up, took them by surprise, and told them the game was over . A good night's rest, and a new day's activities, put this ghost-walk into history. The baseball series, track meet, swimming hole, Wednesday night dances, movies, and bunk duty , helped fill up our spare time. No account of our camp would be quite complete without a mention of the sumptuous banquet we enjoyed the night before leaving. It was a feast in every sense of the word, with singing, joking, and some general knocking. Among those to receive awards, was our own Danny Fitts, present cadet major, who received a medal as the second most efficient student at camp. In other words Dan brought home the bacon for old B. U. Take it all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and will even more enjoy looking back at our many varied and interesting experiences. 319
