H .A i FRESI-IIVIAN l'.w'r,x1x Mcl'.uiT1n' Rare it is that a Terrier freshman team goes through an entire season without winning a single game, but that is just what happened to the class football eleven of 1932. However, circumstances warranted such a showing on this occasion, as this is the last year that the freshman one-year rule is not to be enforced at B. U. Varsity, coaches Reggie Brown and Ed Robinson went through the freshman squad with a fine-toothed comb, taking any man who had possibilities as Varsity material. Captain fushman of the hfilitary Department coached the yearling eleven, and despite the dearth of material did an excellent job. Coach Cushman's material con- sisted in the main, of boys who had had little or no football experience in high school, who were far removed from being Varsity material, and who had much to learn of the fundamentals of the pig-skin game. To off-set their lack of previous training 011 the gridiron, the Terrier yearlings had an indomitable spirit which helped to make the season an enjoyable one, even though calamitous. True, the team lost practically every game by a large score, but a decided improvement was noticeable with each succeeding game. The team opened its season at Lawrence Academy and sudered the worst defeat of the year, 56-0. The prep school boys ran the ends, slanted off the tackles, and forward-passed the Scarlet and Vllhite dizzy. Huntington and New Hampton prep were the next schools faced. Both games resulted in top heavy defeats for the plebes. Teclmology 332, H. U. 's arch rival in Fresh- man sports, was the next opponent, and the embryo en- gineers won 29 to 0. The final game was lost to the soph- omore team, 6 to 0, in the feature event of field day. The roster of the B. The roster of last year's yearling 4 1 4 i i l 1 s 1 l l 1 3 Q l l I l I five was filled with many former prep and high school players, but for spirit. team- play and cooperation, the 1932 quintet had its predecessors beaten by a city block. Too much credit for the splendid showing of the cubs cannot be accorded Lou Vohen, former Varsity captain and leading scorer in the seasons of 1926 and l9Q7. Lou worked under the most trying conditions. The Varsity quintet occu- pied the court most of the time. and it was seldom that he had the gym to himself. The Terrier pups were away to a good start by winning their initial encounter with the BI. I. T. Freshmen in a fast game played at the Tech gym. The score of the game was B. U. 19, Tech Frosh 15. The Sophomore live of Ch L. A., champion in its league was the next victim of the freshmen. The next two games were reverses for the Terrier cubs, the first from the hands of the fast Boston Boy's club, and the second a -I9-22 lacing from the Tufts freshman five. The Jumbos have a one year rule and the superiority of its yearling teams is not at all surprising. After losing its next start at Brown, the team returned to its winning ways by defeating an all-C. L. A. quintet, lventworth Institute, and Huntington School, in successive games. The team was captained by YVilbur lVoods, a product of Belmont High. The diminutive Frosh leader started the year as a substitute, but by his aggressiveness and keen eye from the foul line, worked his way into a regular berth and the esteem of his team mates, who rewarded him with the capatincy. XVoods played a forward position, and teamed with '5Art French a good floor-man. 'S Med H Locke was the first string center, but was lost to the team at mid-term, Broom- hall took his place for the remainder of the season.
