U. was forced to wind up its season with a 12-12 tie against it. Boston University easily was the better team of the two, but as has been the trouble many times before, the eleven entered the game over confident. It looked upon the Vermont eleven as an unworthy opponent as the Cadets had had one of their worst seasons. Norwich, however, thought differently. It had the idea that it could beat B. U. and it came near realizing its dream. It fought tooth and nail and it took B. U. along time to get its attack working. Wliile B. U. was under-estimating its rival it was overestimating its own strength. Only the coaches realized that Walke's loss was as severe as it later proved to be. But they could not make the players believe that the game would be a battle from start to finish. Poor officiating also aided the Norwich cause. The first touchdown scored by the Cadets was a gift by the officials. In the second quarter, with 11 yards to go on a fourth down and in the very shadow of the goal post, Waining, Norwich quarterback, was notified by the referee that he had but one yard to go. YVaining accordingly plugged centre and made a half yard. B. U. claimed the ball, but it was then observed that the Cadets had been 11 yards shy of a first down, rather than one. Capt. 0'Donnell of Norwich disputed the claim for the ball, and referee Shupert ruled that Norwich should have another down. A touchdown ensued on the following play, when O'Donnell passed to Waining, who made a sensational running catch behind the goal line. Tansey missed the point. This mix-up followed a B. U. touchdown made by Perkins on a center buck. iNIarston, Nelson and Hootstein had carried the ball 43 yards to the 5-yard line from where Perkins took it over. The teams started the second half tied at 6 all. Norwich soon went into the lead when Kane picked a forward pass out of the air for a touchdown. T ansey's try for the extra point was blocked by Quinn. B. U. then proceeded to play football. hfarston engineered a drive which culminated in a score by Perkins after Nelson ripped off tackle for 30 yards, carrying to the Norwich three-yard line. hlarston, Hootstein, Perkins, Thurman, and Nelson did fine work in the ball carrying department with Perkins and Hootstein usually in the limelight.
