It was an outgrowth of the National Organization of the Commons Flulm, which was founded at Wesleyan University in lliddletown, Connecticut, in 1899 and had grown to national scope including chapters at many universities. Nvhen the 'Greek Letter' fraternities hecame so prevalent. the Fommons Vlub disbanded and the chapters at Connecticut, New Hampshire. and Vermont hecame mother chapters of the present Phi B111 Delta. Since that time the fraternity has grown to the present enrollment of fourteen chapters distributed over the country. Extension work was conducted on a modest ' and rigid scale. Nu Zeta chapter at Boston lf. was granted its charter inApril 1927. Previous to its installation, Nu Zeta was known as Delta C'hi Omega which was founded at F. 13. Delta Sigma Phi. fonnrlecl as an international soc-ial fraternity at the Clollege of the City of New York on Dec-einber 10, 1899, is now entering upon its thirtieth sueeessfnl year. ln these twenty-nine years, it has grown steadily until now it lists forty-seven ac-tive chapters and twenty-one alumni organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Alpha Beta Vhapter was originally known as Umega Alpha, a local fraternity until Bfay 1, 1920, when a eharter was eonferrecl upon it by the national oflieers ol' Delta Sigma Phi. Delta Sigma Phi is noted for its promotion ol' refinement, harmony anal fra- ternalisni among its members. lt is proud ol' many of its famous sons, among whom are: Secretary of Labor John J. Davisg Honorable Doyle Uarleton. Governor ol' Floridag J. Nelson Norwood. Dean of Alfred llniversity: the Blayors ol' Antonio and Dallas. Texas: and the Seeretary of the Pan-.Xineric-an l'nion.
